  1. I havnt tried it but will later tonite and see what happens
  2. you could run it as a Run Command Line step in the task sequence, you could modify files in the MDT toolkit by referencing the file(s) itself via the MDT path called %scriptroot% (where the scripts are stored) or %toolroot% (the root of the MDT toolkit package) however I havnt tried modifying files directly in there, it might be best to point to an 'external' path and modify a file there instead as every time you use the toolkit package any modified files would be replaced with those from the MDT toolkit itself
  3. have you seen the post below yet ? Setting computername during deployment Using the OSDComputerName variable
  4. did you do this ? read the end of (step 1) Note: Repeat the above (installation of the WSUS server role) on your Primary server P01. and as a side note, this guide is (so far) specifically for the RTM release of Configuration Manager 2012 and therefore Server 2012 is not supported, you need Configuration Manager 2012 Service Pack 1 for that...
  5. It's unexciting. Boring, really. That's what detractors of Microsoft's Windows 8 are saying. And those comments are showing up at the register, as retailers are also blaming slower than expected sales on a weak market. It's a sign of the times. At one point a new operating system got people to buy new computers. But those days may be behind us. As 2013 approaches, consumers seem to be more into hardware instead of software. And that means tablets and mobile devices. Not the platforms that make them run. And with a still-tumultuous economy, people are sticking with the computers they have, not rushing to upgrade. The numbers seem to back this up, as sales of Windows 8 are off 13% compared to 2011 Windows 7 sales, according to research firm NPD. Mix this with heavy competition from Apple, Amazon and a slew of others and it becomes less and less surprising that the PC business, which once dominated the lion's share of tech sales, continues to struggle. It's a very real rivalry fought and won in retail dollars, and the first-born isn't winning handily any more. The shift in consumer mentality and sales is moving more and more to tablets and smartphones over computers. These devices are also essential to the long-term success of Microsoft, which redesigned its new operating system to incorporate a tile-interface made for touchscreen functionality, yet flexible enough for traditional laptop and desktop devices. But that change has been met with sharp thorns, as critics have been disappointed with the user interface in lieu of the new tile structure alongside the old desktop version. Is this the death knell for Windows 8? Not so fast. There seems to be one more hope on the horizon: The introduction of a slew of new Windows 8 devices slated for 2013 launch. But that's a long way away in both retail and calendar time, so slower sales now are not a harbinger for a happy Microsoft holiday season. via > http://readwrite.com/2012/12/24/windows-8-sales-slower-than-hoped
  6. why has it two partitions ? if it's a VM then it doesn't need a bitlocker partition, alternatively if you insist on doing two partitions in this build and capture, and i can't see why...then make sure that the OS partition is formatted, can you show the task sequence you are using (screenshot..) for the partition disk 0 step...it should look like this have you tried following my build and capture post here ?
  7. why are you using HTTPS for all communication ? in my guide i covered HTTP communication only, do you have any specific reason for doing it twith HTTPS ? (it adds more complexity to the situation) James describes the process for using build and capture in HTTPS mode here
  8. i don't recall testing deploying Windows 7 with RIS however here's how to setup WDS on Server 2003, and it can deploy both XP and Windows Vista so Windows 7 should also be possible however, i'd recommend you use MDT 2010 update 1 (or a later version) to deploy Windows 7 if you cannot use Configuration Manager 2007/2012.
  9. diskpart your disk and create a partition on it, then try the task sequence again
  10. if you want to do it that way in production go ahead, but you'll have a hard time keeping track of what is going out to your systems and when, by setting it to Last one day and scheduling it to occur just after patch tuesday once per month, you are deciding when and where your systems get patched.
  11. yes you have to create that folder manually, it's simply there to store the contents of the Windows 7 Updates for the windows 7 deployment package simply add a space or fullstop or rename the original ADR slightly to get the desired result, no you are not doing anything wrong, mine has an extra space (from memory..) you are welcome
  12. you create the ADR to create the deployment package, once done you disable the ADR and recreate it as before, except this time you re-use the previously created deployment package, this is to avoid recreating the deployment package every time the ADR runs...
  13. are you clicking on the Update button in the SCEP console or are you letting it update itself as per policy ?
  14. have you reviewed the troubleshooting section of this post ? feel free to attach some logs for us to take a look at
  15. have you seen this post, it's for CM07 but the same rules should apply more or less...
  16. how did you backup ? using Configuration Managers built in backup function or something else ?
  17. until microosft releases a fix the suggested workarounds on myitforum are what you should do (don't deploy this update and/or disable wmi rebuilding.)
  18. if you are using vmware they you probably have the built in vmware dhcp server enabled, have you checked that ?
  19. sure, but if you want to check the compliance status of your ADR deployment on let's say all your Configuration Manager Servers, how are you planning on doing that ? if you are pointing at the All Desktops and Servers collection you won't get this granularity...
  20. if you want the clients connected to that management point (on that primary) to scan against that sup then yes you should also have wsus and sup installed on the other primary.
  21. that example on my blog does show you how to create distribution points however it is specifically aimed at doing so on a X86 server, if you are using an X64 server then you will gain additional functionality
  22. have you verified the updates are downloaded in the deployment package ? have you added this computer to a build and capture collection or is it unknown the entire time ?
  23. nice find, also to note Cu2 is out and it contains all the fixes in Cu1
  24. 1. yes it's posible 2. you can place distribution points at the 4 locoal offices, no probnlem at all, or you can have have 4 secondary servers, it's up to you what you think you need.
