SQL Server 2005 SP3 is now supported for SMS 2003 and ConfigMgr 2007 Just a quick FYI that the Configuration Manager team recently completed testing and SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 is now officially supported as a site database for the following products: Systems Manager Server 2003 Service Pack 3 System Center Configuration Manager 2007 RTM System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP1 System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2 (with SQL Reporting Services) Cumulative update package 1 for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 Yesterday I mentioned that SQL Server 2005 SP3 is now supported for SMS 2003 and ConfigMgr 2007 but as an interesting side note did you know that if you move to SP3 of SQL 2005 you're still not at the latest patch level? There's actually a Cumulative Update out for SP3 so you should install SP3 and then CU1 to be completely up to date (Note: This cumulative update is not required for supportability with the previously mentioned products). how can I troubleshoot Windows PE booting in SCCM
anyweb replied to anyweb's question in Troubleshooting, Tools, Hints and Tips
new one today the Task Sequence was forcing C: to be formatted as 9GB and D: as 9GB also (running out of space on the hyperv server) Windows Server 2008 requires a partition of 10gb to install... so changed the Task Sequence from c:=9gb to c:=12gb and re ran it, this time, no error... fyi. -
help on installing programms in task sequence
anyweb replied to dave's question in Deploy software, applications and drivers
go into the packages node under software distribution, choose the package in question, expand it and choose progams highlight your program for the package, right click and choose properties, click on the Environment Tab, make sure that program can run whether or not a user is logged on is selected does that help ? cheers anyweb -
it took a lot of work i had to first backup the old web servers data plus sql databases, I then had to point DNS for my sites to a blank 'server is being udpated page' once done i rented a new server in Amsterdam via leaseweb.com with Centos on it, I then setup apache/mysql and php (compiled) I then recreated the databases, reimported the data, copied back the content then change DNS pointers to point to the new website server IP and voila it's done ! a few things still to do but the backbone is there and the amsterdam site is VERY fast now it's time to develop this site bigtime to make use of the 2000gb data transfer wanna help ? cheers anyweb

thanks Tobias ! I've now ordered a server (dedicated) and will begin the transistion phase in the meantime www.windows-noob.com may be down for a day or more apologies about that.

dear loyal www.windows-noob.com members, it appears that someone has complained that an email received from this web server (see this post on sister site) was spam (it wasn't) as a result, the order from the ISP is to take the server offline from January 9th at 8.a.m. this obviously is bad news and i will update you when I find an ISP or webhotel that can host my websites without this rediculous behavior cheers anyweb

Microsoft has announced it plans to offer IE8 via Windows Update. In a move that will likely anger rivals such as Apple and Google, Microsoft will be pushing Internet Explorer 8 via Windows Update. Google raised concerns back in 2006 when IE7 was originally released via Windows Update. The IE8 update will be released as the highest priority update for each operating system. For Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008, it will be listed as Important. For Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, the update will be listed as High Priority. Delivery of IE8 via AU will begin after Microsoft make IE8 available from the Microsoft Download Center. Of course, users can always decline to install IE8 through AU when it is offered. via neowin.net

Updates for Workstation with SCCM 2007 ?!?!?
anyweb replied to TronixS's question in Software Update Point
look at this post http://www.myitforum.com/forums/m_163614/printable.htm does it help ? cheers anyweb -
after the restart you see this followed by some registry settings update and then completing installation (takes some time...) followed by another reboot followed by some first use preparation (startrek anyone ?) enter your user and computername info.. then password enter your product key then decide on what level to protect windows review time and date settings... (deja vu) what network to use ? finalizing settings and finally the desktop itself
-
however here's what it looks like when you boot a pc with the dvd in the drive booting... this bit is cool, the Windows logo vibrates in and out slowly.... very nice now to the install, back to reality... more installing setup is starting... accept the EULA choose install type (upgrade or custom) tell setup where to install windows files get copied and then expanded... and finally a restart...

some screenies... if you are running Windows XP and you insert the DVD you'll see this or you could just brose the dvd directly and start the install

Deployment of vista or applicattions slow
anyweb replied to dave's question in Troubleshooting, Tools, Hints and Tips
you'll have to give more info than this if you want any advice on the problem such as, what hardware setup ? cheers anyweb -
thanks for the update and i'm glad it's working now cheers anyweb
-
thats normal, the shares are created by SCCM itself so you don't have to worry about that, try recreating the package that it's complaining about instead cheers anyweb
-
i've triple checked your logs its failing on that point everytime see here it refers to the 3: itteration of that package so i really do think you need to start that package again (delete it, recreate it, redistribute it, re update the dp) also read this > http://www.myitforum.com/forums/m_177318/m..._/tm.htm#177318 cheers anyweb
-
locate the package in SCCM and verify it has a distribution point if you check package status logs you should see some info in there about that specific package without knowing more info about your setup it's hard to say what is wrong but as before i think its either 1. this package is not distributed properly (try re-distributing it) or 2. the network drivers for your client hardware are not imported into boot.wim and as a result Windows PE cannot continue and unfortunately... reboots the computer without telling you, therefore the only way to find out is reading your logs, press F8 and see can you PING the SCCM server at this point cheers anyweb

Reviewing the first beta of an important release like Windows 7 is never an easy job to do. A confouding factor is that many people have already made up their mind about Windows 7; not because they have tried it, but because it's a Microsoft product, and therefore it sucks. At OSNews we try to judge products by their own merits, not by the parent company that created it. Read on for a set of impressions regarding the Windows 7 beta. read more > http://osnews.com/story/20722/Review_Windows_7_Beta

Even though the EULA accompanying the beta build of Windows 7 prohibits the publication of benchmark results (good luck enforcing that one, Redmond), everybody and their dog will still compare the Windows 7 beta to Vista and Windows XP. Adrian Kingsley-Hughes is one of those benchmarking the beta, and according to his results, the Windows 7 beta beats both Vista and XP in just about every scenario. read more > http://blogs.zdnet.com/hardware/?p=3236&page=1 via > osnews.com

I think this is your problem verify that you have actually distributed and updated the distribution point for that package (IHR00003) if it is updated and distributed then your network drivers are required in boot.wim cheers anyweb
