  1. Hi Nail, I am in the same boat as the OP (and currently have to keep deploying a task sequence to unknown comps based on what machine I'm building). I can't quite grasp your response. Could you explain a little further what you mean to do? Thanks
  2. To clarify the issue further. I rebooted the SCCM box and Windows Update on the client / server could then see the update. These servers are 2012 (not R2) and Windows 8 and 8.1 The server saw the update but when I clicked on install I got the immediate error Code 80244019 Not sure what to do now
  3. Hi all, Lab is 2012 DC, 2012 with Exchange 2013 and 2012 R2 running SCCM 2012 R2 (all roles including SQL and WSUS) Following the lab tutorials from here (although different), I get to step 5 (tutorial) and do the GPO thing, add the name of the update server but the client never seems to appear in the Windows Update list. WU does say that the settings are managed by the administrator so the GPO is obviously applying. CCMExec.log shows: Failed to open to WMI namespace '\\.\root\ccm\Policy\Machine' (8007045b) CcmExec 11/12/2013 22:36:15 2524 (0x09DC) Could not connect to machine policy WMI namespace to get service settings. CcmExec 11/12/2013 22:36:15 2524 (0x09DC) not sure if this is even the right log to be looking at Not sure I understand the process. How does WU know that the update is there if you never do like a "deploy"? Thanks
  4. When creating the Build and Capture device collection, I choose to limit the collcetion to "All Systems", but what query should I use, if any?
  5. Hi, I've had SCCM 2012 installed and working for ages, but now it's RTM I thought I'd re-install and take the opportunity to slipstream my many SQL instances across multiple servers onto one SQL box. Well, I've setup SQL 2008 R2 with SP1 and CU4 on (let's call it SQL.mydomain.com) and I enter that in the SCCM 2012 setup wizard along with the instance name (which is SCCM12). I contunally get this error. Now, I made sure that the SQL instance had both domain administrator and SMS Admins added as users (during install of SQL). Collation is correct for that instance and all services run under a SQL Admin account. I've enabled Named Pipes - no joy I've disabled dynamic ports - no joy I've disabled firewalls - no joy I'm sad
  6. Further to my earlier post. Looking at WSUS on the SCCM box it says none of the computers have contacted. The windowsupdate.log on the clients all show similar to this: 4b4 PT Server URL = http://sccmserver:8530/SimpleAuthWebService/SimpleAuth.asmx 2012-03-01 23:14:04:742 488 14b4 Misc WARNING: Send failed with hr = 80072ee2. 2012-03-01 23:14:04:742 488 14b4 Misc WARNING: SendRequest failed with hr = 80072ee2. It used to work I'm to understand there should be no GPO for the WSUS right?
  7. but there must be a away to initiate from sccm?? or schedule? If I open WSUS on the SCCM box for instance, it says all the PCs haven't updated status in x number of days.
  8. I know i've asked this before, but I can't remember the last time my machines actually had an update from SCCM. How can I tell/
  9. Hi, is there a step in the task sequence I can set to make sure the keyboard language / region is set to UK? Thanks
  10. Step 3, do we have to do this for both boot images? x86 and x64? Thanks
  11. When I do my build and capture reference machine, once booted, I install Office 2010 and Adobe Pro X to it, but these changes are never captured. What's the process, or do I have to deploy them through SCCM?
  12. Hi, me again. Tried searching for this, but unsure really what terms to search. Hoping someone here can help? I have two server core boxes, one is a print server, the other is the DC with all role. Every other server is full install, so when SCCM config client tells me there's an update, I can open it and choose to install / update / restart, etc. Obviously this GUI isn't available on the servercore boxes, so how can I tell the servercore boxes to install the updates? Thanks
  13. Ok, not had this before. Basically, I'm doing this multiple times to try and document the pitfalls during installation. Now, still in lab7, I've noticed WDS is not started. When I start it, it fails telling me to look in the system event log. Looking there gives this message: The Windows Deployment Services Server service terminated with service-specific error This shared resource does not exist.. It's correct, I don't see any of the normal shares associated with WDS Any ideas?
  14. I've just sat here and thought about it, and worked it out. I had the limiting collection listed as Windows 7 machines instead of all systems. The second I changed it, it appeared. My bad!
  15. Yep, loads of times. When I update the membership, I see the little egg timer next to the B&C collection but it never populates. I've rebooted the server too. The import is successful and I see its been added in the SMSProv log, it just never shows. I had this issue before but can't remember how I resolved it. When I make the device collection, is there a query that I need to add (sorry, the steps aren't listed in the lab, it just says to create a new collection). Thanks anyweb
  16. Hi guys, this has been plaguing me again and I can't seem to resolve it. When I import the machine settings and add it to the build and capture device collection, no matter how long I wait, the machine never gets added to that collection. It appears in all devices, but not in the device collection (which I specified when I imported it). please help
  17. Hi, hope you can help. On all my servers which are receiving updates, they seem to hang. Is there a way I can kick the process off again, or stop this somehow? It never progresses past this screenshot.
  18. Another cool step anyweb. Just one quick question around updates (via SUS). Do I have to keep running / syncing in order for new updates to be applied? What are the steps? Thanks
  19. anyweb, do I deploy Office / Adobe through SCCM, or is it just better to capture a reference machine with Office / Adobe already on?
  20. Ahh, got that working too now. I deleted, then recreated the task sequence. All working fine so far. Excellent series anyweb, about to start Part 8 Just to clarify, before moving on, do I prepare this machine how I would (like install Office, Adobe, domain join, etc)?
  21. HI guys, me again. Got the PXE boot to work. Oddly, I didn't have the required permission to \\sccsmserver\sms_p01\osd\boot and bin directories. Once I sorted that out, I ran through step 4 again, and at the end, I right clicked each boot image and chose "Update Distribution Points". My VM immediately PXE booted. One question though, as I feared, my VM boots and you see most of the screen shots above (step 10) except it only restarts twice then goes straight to the desktop. It doesn't appear to install the updates. If you go to Windows Update, it shows updates are available (around 56 of them). Any ideas?
  22. Hi guys, little help? When I import computer information into my build and capture device collection, I put in the machine name and the MAC address of the virtual machine. Thing is, no matter how long I wait, the machine never shows in the build and capture collection view. It shows in "Devices", but never appears in the Build / Capture list. Any ideas? Also, when I come to step 10, I check to see if my WDS service has started, but it just says "starting" with all stop, start, restart options greyed out. It's hung, how can I resolve that? Thanks
  23. Hi all, hoping someone can help a newb with this! Thanks to the excellent Beta 2 part series on here, I've got it installed and running / reporting and can PXE boot to machines, etc. Now, the WSUS challenge. I had a server previously running WSUS and looking after all relevant updates. It worked fine I obviously want to get SCCM to take care of this now. So, I've added the SCCM site server to the existing WSUS server local admin group. I've then added the WSUS server as a site server on the SCCM box. I added the SUP role. Now, I'm pretty sure this is where things get interesting. During the add SUP wizard, I keep the classifications and products as they are (although I note, not all of the products are listed, no Exchange 2010 for example). This wizard completes and I can see the messages in the config status viewer. I see sync started, then it fails: WSUS Synchronization failed. Message: WSUS server not configured. Source: CWSyncMgr::DoSync. The operating system reported error 2147500037: Unspecified error I have the WSUS server set up at the default website, etc. Hoping someone can help Thanks
