  1. If you download content before install this is not using BITS and can be slow......If you choose to access content directly from DP then this is using BITS....so you have a choice at deployment configuration time!! Rocket Man
  2. Update on this....I have tried the network share option and it still will not install....Just out of curiosity i inserted office into the share and tried running it from the share instead of this piece of damn software that is defiant...and Office will install no problem....i guess im just going to have to do with installing it on the image before capture or run it manually by browsing to share thanks Rocket Man

create a collection to query AD to see which macines are XP.....from this collection you can see how may XP machines there are, whether they are active, and have they got a site code...if they do not have site code this means they have not had a heart beat in such a period of time depending on the time period specified at configuration time....mine is 2 years and if I see machine with no site code i delete it, both form SCCM and AD http://www.windowsadminSPAM!/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=136
  4. Can you not just specify to align icons to grid and auto-align icons on desktop?
  5. Can I ask you why you would prefer to download...takes twice as long BITS are to be used for a reason.....I stream as much as I can possible as it takes alot less time to install OS or programs. Have you checked logs, like PKGMGR and DISTRMGR to see if there are any clues there?
  6. If you google it.....right click tools for SCCM 2012/2007.......They are good...I have just installed them on my site server.......already i can see benifits....there are lots of functionality with them that will save you time such as been able to force the clients to pole for policies not only a single client but a full collection ........nice... :D Rocket Man
  7. Have you enable the DP for Prestaging??? I see you have changed the default value in the last snippet from manaully copy to automatically download content. This may be your problem with this package.......and others if they are configured the same With this configuration the DP is waiting for prestage packages and will automatically try to copy them to it constantly.......if you do not need prestaging I suggest you change it back to default.......Prestaging is enabled via DP properties...maybe you selected by accident?? To your question........you specify whether to download content locally or run from DP during the deployment of any program or TS....I think it's at the last configuration wizard page there should be a drop down list....only if you have specified to copy the content to a share on a DP...which you have....so you should get this choice.........do you get this choice???? Rocket Man
  8. when you have removed it have you checked your DP share to see if it has actually removed from its ID folder?? I assume you are distributing to DP and specifying it to create share folder in the data access tab of the software properties?? Rocket man
  9. yes it is in client settings.....client default policy...client policy....... change poling schedule from default 60 mins to whatever you wish......it is recommended not to have it poling to often in production enviornment due to activity etc.... If you want to schedule deployments I would recommend you do so 1 hour 15 mins before you want it to run.... or you can go to control panel...configmgr agent actions tab and run machine policy...or you could get the right click tools and you can do all this and alot more from site server....saves alot of time!!! 10. It opens sessions every hour by default as this is the time the client poles site server by default settings. if it is trying to install software sporadically then there must be a deployment of software advertised that is not getting installed. check the deployments node to see if there are any undated deployments or unsucsessful ones.....i would suggest removing all deployments and start fresh with a new deployment, make sure to have it distributed to DP first then deploy. In your OSD deployment are you specifying to download all content first or run from DP? are you doing the same procedure with program deployment. Some programs can be only installed via download and not run directly from DP.....i have experienced this before and it will just sit there all day becuase it has to be downloaded. Rocket Man
  11. Check your boundary/boundary group...........seems like the client may not be able to talk back to the MP to finalise the install.
  12. Have finally made progress on this...... I have simply created software update packages such as win7 critical, office, dotNet etc and distributed to DPs and deployed to collections....... The clients are now getting updated via SCCM deployment even if the automatic upadtes are not turned off...i guess this is normal behavior...but still not sure about the unknown service issue. Will leave it as it is, as it is still syncing successfully. Rocket Man
  13. What model of laptop is it? Dell, HP etc... Rocket Man
  14. Could be the reason alright.......I did some testing on this scenario on a remote DP I created a software update package for Office 2010 and deployed it to a test collection with a VM in it on a remote DP which has a pretty poor WAN link. When the dead line reached for install.....the updates just sat there spinning trying to download for ages(2-3hrs) and no sign of them installing.(due to them having to come acroos the WAN link and not from DP) I turned the VM off and distributed the update package to the DP. switched the VM back on and when the client became active and poled the site server it only took approx 5-10 mins to install 40-50 Office updates.....Achievement :D So i guess you could be right......hope it works for you Rocket man
  15. Well you need to configure your SCCM DP for intranet and internet based clients. Certificates will also have to be created for the internet based clients and you will have to publish your SCCM site server so that clients can talk back to the MP over the internet in other words clients out in the wild. There is quite a bit of configuration with this and saying so you also have a DMZ in your enviornment I would advice to to get some professional expertise on this.....someone who can call to site and do a survey of your network(s) and advice on the best configuration..... there are alot of factors to bear in mind with your enviornment especially with DMZ implemented. And to answer your questions about software deployment, SCEP etc....of course this can work in this scenario but it will take quite a bit of configuration.
  16. Just a thought....maybe your clients caches are bunged up.....Try deleting the client cache before deployment of software...this can be achieved by going to the agent in CTRL panel and deleting the cache from there or directly going to the ccmsetup folder in windows and deleting the contents from ccmcache. If it is and you have persisted the client cache with advertisements for whatever reasons and you do not want to delete the cacahe then simply expand it by the agent in the CTRL panel. I was going to say it was BITS but if OSD is fine then more than likely not, depending if you are running from DP or downloading content locally first?? Also if it is windows 7 turn of UAC from the control panel/Action center...this can cause serious issues when using SCCM to deploy software, could be this that is causing the slow download!! Rocket Man
  17. Is it SCCM 2012... if so there is content validation funtionality that can be scheduled on DPs. Can you please reiterate as to what you are trying to do....I am a bit lost as to what it is you are trying to achieve??
  18. Create a bootable USB and try and install the wim on a client...There is lots of info on the web how to achieve this pretty quickly!! By loading it in i guess you mean create an OS image package? How did you create your wim file? Is it a standard install.wim from the media or is it a custom wim? If it is not a huge size and can fit on to a DVD then i would suggest simply get the appropriate windows 7 media i:e Enterprise, pro etc... and simply copy your suspected corrupt wim into the sources folder and replace the original and boot from this.....make sure that it is named install.wim otherwise it will not work Rocket man
  19. Is it remote clients on other subnets on your WAN or clients out in the wild like clients working from home across the public internet??
  20. I never thought of that Peter....sounds promising.......Will not be able to try this until next week....will post then how I get on Thanks Rocket man
  21. No I have not tried that Peter...You see when an install shield file is run it is supposed to create a .iss response file which contains all the settings chosen during the install....Sage installation does not create this file unfortunately...and SAGE technical support will not help as they do not support silent install.... Will try this and get back Thanks Rocket Man
  22. Les Use binary replication on boot.wims....this way it is only the difference that gets updated distributed everytime there is a change and not the full package.. Rocket Man
  23. I dont think this is what i am looking for......all i really need is a way to invoke a run command line to point to the script on the network share which in turn runs the software from the network share. I have created vb script and deployed to target machines set shell=createobject("wscript.shell") shell.run "\\UNC-Path to share /parameters" set shell=nothing Does not work, continuously says installed without invoking the actual software install I have created vb script and deployed to target machines set shell=createobject("wscript.shell") shell.run "\\UNC-Path to share\install.vbs" set shell=nothing Same outcome, but if i browse to share and run vbs it runs If i have the 1st script above on the desktop of the client and run it it installs the software I have created a batch file also and deployed it but no luck either. So why does this not work by invoking through command line in SCCM 2012 cscript.exe etc.......
  24. Hi My main reason as to why I do not want to deploy this by SCCM is that this package is 10GB in size and has to be distributed over poor WAN links which is not feasable, so defeat this I run it from network share. I will have a look at the link provided and thanks for the information. Rocket man
  25. How can I run a commandline in a TS to tell the client to go to a share to run a script that will install a piece of software. I have a very large piece of software that I have packaged and sitting on a share on the network. i have created a script that i have placed in the source directory of the package. If i run the script manually by browsing to the share from the client it will install the software on the client, but i want to be able to automate this step via SCCM. Any help is appreciated Rocket Man
