Does anyone know if its possible to setup a Distribution Point without IIS? Technet Article here shows IIS is a requirement: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682077.aspx#BKMK_SupConfigSiteSystemReq but Microsoft recommended us that if we are using Domain Controller as a DP, we should try and not install IIS for security reasons. (Yes Domain Controllers is not a good idea, but unfortunately we have nothing else in the remote locations, Windows 7 is not a option right now) I have tried installing the DP role on a DC (Primary site server was added to Domain Admins group already and the server has been rebooted), but it keeps giving me a error message. The logs on the remote DC's don't have much, I keep getting a couple of errors Error #1: error = ERROR DPConnection::ConnectWMI() - Failed to connect to <Server name> 0x800706ba CWmi::Connect() failed to connect to \\<Server name>\root\MicrosoftIISv2. Error = 0x800706BA The error mentions IIS as well. Is IIS a requirement and anyway around that? I thought IIS was needed only because of BITS, but we are willing to not configure BITS. Thanks

System Center 2012 Configuration Manager SP1 is released
fr0zen replied to anyweb's topic in Configuration Manager 2012
do you know if the AMT support for 7x+ has been added to SP1? -
Wondering what would the quickest way be? Example: PC1, needs to be added to 4 collections PC2, needs to be added to 6 collections, etc they can all be random collections, therefore the process is manual right now. SCCM2007 had right click tools gui which allowed you to Add to collection and select multiple collections. With SCCM 2012, the add to existing collection is pre-built, but you can only select one collection at a time. Anyone know of a tool that can make my life easier? Regards

Another windows7 updates not deploying
fr0zen replied to Kingskawn's question in Software Update Point
hey i seem to have the exact same issue, how did you end up fixing it? -
Looks like customsettings.ini Language settings do not get passed over the unattended.xml. Tested this a multiple times, maybe its a bug in MDT? I was able to get the language pack work properly after using a unattended.xml with proper language selections.
-
hey i tried dism too, but now it prompts us to select the default language for the OS. I want default to be english and other language packs to be optional. Were you able to skip the language selection dialog during setup of windows?
-
I got this issue fixed, but now I have another The above error was resolved by removing a embedded windows update patch from the wim file. I had to use DISM to try and add the language back. Got the same error as above and I was able to trace a msu package that was giving a problem. The package was removed and the this step is working now. Now the language packs install fine, but at the end of the setup it prompts with a Setup Windows dialog, asking user to select the default language for the system. How do i skip this dialog and choose English as the default option? my customsettings.ini already has the following SkipLocaleSelection=YES KeyboardLocale=0409:00000409 UILanguage=en-US UserLocale=en-US I am not using a unattended.xml, could that be the issue?
-
Hey Guys, I am hoping for some assistance here. I am trying to install 2 optional language packs in Windows 7 deployment. The language packs are located under: \\server\Language Packs\fr-fr\lp.cab \\server\Language Packs\ja-jp\lp.cab The package i created point to \\server\Language packs\. The package does not consist of a program. By default I would like all language packs to be always installed. Therefore no variables or unattend.xml file is being used. It tries to install, but the ZTIPatches_DISM.log file ends up with errors. The file is about 10MB some of the errors: 2012-12-03 19:58:08, Error CBS Failed to resolve package 'Package_75_for_KB2756822~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.0' [hrESULT = 0x80070490 - ERROR_NOT_FOUND] 2012-12-03 19:58:08, Info CBS Failed to resolve package [hrESULT = 0x80070490 - ERROR_NOT_FOUND] 2012-12-03 19:58:08, Info CBS Failed to get next package to re-evaluate [hrESULT = 0x80070490 - ERROR_NOT_FOUND] 2012-12-03 19:58:08, Info CBS Failed to process component watch list. Lots of "Unknown" client machines in SCCM 2012 Console
fr0zen replied to fr0zen's topic in Configuration Manager 2012
but we have PXE disabled on SCCM. -
I am experiencing a strange issue, anyone know what this could be? screenshot attached if i try to push a client to these "Unknown" machines it states: Summary of client push installation • Resource ID: 16777899 • Object name: Unknown • Include domain controllers: No • Always install (repair or upgrade existing client): No • Total resources selected to install the Configuration Manager client: 1 Error: Some of the selected resources are not assigned to any site Errors Number of resources that are not in any site's boundaries and will not be installed: 1 As far as I know I have all IP Ranges in my boundaries and AD sites.

or i guess i could just use a collection with a query this seems to work perfectly.... so looks like i answered my question select SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceID,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceType,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Name,SMS_R_SYSTEM.SMSUniqueIdentifier,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Client from SMS_R_System inner join SMS_G_System_SoftwareFile on SMS_G_System_SoftwareFile.ResourceID = SMS_R_System.ResourceId where SMS_G_System_SoftwareFile.FileName = "test.exe" and SMS_G_System_SoftwareFile.FileVersion < "9.7.500.702"

Hello, I am hoping someone can post there ideas on this. Goal: Uninstall a manually installed Application from the Environment and Install the latest install. In our case we have different versions of application installed in our environment. The computers which have the older version need to uninstall the old app and re-install the new version. I need to create a collection with users who don't have the right version of the software (We have multiple old versions installed). Configuration Baseline can create a collection of all computers which are non-compliant based on the file version, but it also add's computer which don't have the file as "Non-Compliant". I only want the collection of computers which HAVE the file, but its the wrong version. Is there a way I can create a collection which checks if: 1.) File exists --- If it exists, move to Step 2, if it doesn't then the system does not need to be part of the collection 2.) If File Exists, check file version. --- Greater or equal to the required version number = Compliant, and doesn't need to be part of the collection --- File version is lowered then the required version = Non-Compliant, system gets added to the Collection 3.) Collection runs the script we have to backup and install the new software. Compliance baseline would be perfect, but except it makes a system non-compliant if the file doesn't exist, i can't get it to SKIP the compliance test if the file doesn't exist in the first place. Hoping for a genius answer

SCCM 2012 - Collections Design recommendation?
fr0zen replied to fr0zen's topic in Configuration Manager 2012
Just replying to myself, maybe the best way is to create collections for laptops and desktops. This way the application can be assigned to them and I never need "Software" named collections. So far in theory it sounds really good- 8 replies

SCCM 2012 - Collections Design recommendation?
fr0zen replied to fr0zen's topic in Configuration Manager 2012
Thanks for the quick reply. I just played around with the Application and it does seem to be awesome. One of the reasons we had collections was to segregate Desktops and Laptops, unfortunately I don't see a way of application targeting laptops only or just Desktops only. Am i wrong ?- 8 replies

Hello Everyone, This website has been super helpful in my migration from SCCM 2007 to SCCM 2012. One of the questions that I can't seem to find any answers for is related to SCCM 2012 Collections design consideration. Currently in SCCM 2007 we have a "Software Distribution" Collection, and within each application has its own collection. All computers are added using Direct rule only (yes not the best way), to each application specific collection as needed. Now, with SCCM 2012, I would like to revamp the way we push out applications, on top of that since sub-collections are not possible with SCCM 2012, having 100 collections for software is going to look like a mess. I would like to get advice on how you guys are pushing out packages using SCCM 2012. I am guessing a lot of you are using AD Groups for applications and maybe using a query to determine if the app is already installed? The whole application vs packages still has me confused. A visual screenshots of a setup would help a lot. Thanks again.
