Do you mean the logon screen? You can set that via group policy (Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Control Panel > Personalization > Force a specific default lock screen image, Prevent changing lock screen image).

Deploy application & registry key using .bat
tregelen replied to BogdanR's question in Deploy software, applications and drivers
You should check out the PS App Deploy Toolkit. It makes doing things like this a lot simpler. I do agree though, an MST to do the reg keys would do this very well. -

SCCM 1606 and Servicing Plans
tregelen replied to keywan's topic in System Center Configuration Manager (Current Branch)
I don't think so, although I haven't tried it. The way that I understand it is that the servicing plans are for servicing existing installations of Windows 10 e.g. upgrading 1511 to 1607. To upgrade Windows 7 to 10 you need to use the 'Upgrade Operating System' Task Sequence step with the Windows 10 media. -
HTA does not appear during the OSD
tregelen replied to Karthik2811's question in Frontends, HTA's and Web Services
Try copying the file locally first and then reference the full path in the command line. You can use the step 'Download Package Content' to copy the files and assign that path to a variable and then reference that in the 'Run Command Line' step.- 5 replies

HTA does not appear during the OSD
tregelen replied to Karthik2811's question in Frontends, HTA's and Web Services
Have you created a package with no program for your HTA and are referencing that in your 'Run Command Line' step? Have you added HTA support into your boot image? I remember having issues with loading a HTA years ago when 2012 first came out where I had to copy the file locally first and then reference that full path.- 5 replies

You could add it into your base WIM as the wallpaper of the default user, that would then apply to all new users that log into the machine. You could use group policy to replace the windows default image with your image. I don't know the file name/location off the top of my head but in Windows XP it was 'bliss.bmp' You might be able to set it in your unattend.xml. I haven't tried it before but its a possibility.

Create a collection based on a couple different queries
tregelen replied to acpowell's topic in Configuration Manager 2012
As said there is an 'or' and 'and' button. If you didn't want to do that you could always create a third collection that includes the members of the other two. -
It all depends on where you want to input the information. If you want to type it every time you image a machine put those variables as blank on the collection. What we do is we have one collection for one domain and another collection for our other one. These have one variable each, 'SOE-Domain' which lists one domain or the other. As one of our first steps in the TS we have a 'Set Dynamic Variables' step that sets everything based on the 'SOE-Domain' variable. Sorry that so much is blacked out, we have quite strict privacy restrictions here.
-
You can use the 'OSDDomainName' variable. If you pair these with 'OSDJoinAccount', 'OSDJoinPassword', and 'OSDDomainOUName' then it will make any builds dynamic. These will override any settings you use in the 'Apply Network Settings' step so you don't need to add an additional step in for that. You would need to use a front end of sorts or just have those as blank variables on the collection that the machine is in and you will be given the option to fill them in, which is what we currently do.

Slow OSD with only one Distribution Point (Virtual Machine)
tregelen replied to dyg's topic in Configuration Manager 2012
Agreed, I was in the same situation and have them move the disk to a dedicated section and it sped things up a lot. -
Rename a Distribution point server- SCCM 2012R2
tregelen replied to shineknox's topic in Configuration Manager 2012
You would need to remove the site system, rename it and have that update in the database and then add it back in as a new site system. -
Run script printer to application deploy
tregelen replied to torbuck's topic in Configuration Manager 2012
I would use the PS App Deploy Toolkit (http://psappdeploytoolkit.com/). There is a function in there to remove MSI installations by name which you can use a wildcard for. It will search the registry for all the uninstall strings and uninstall them. After that it will move onto the installation of the latest version. We have converted all of our installations to using the toolkit as it standardizes things for us and creates really good log files for service desk to follow. -
This should work (I haven't tested it because im not at work atm) $var = New-Object -ComObject Microsoft.SMS.TSEnvironment $OSDComputerName = $var.Value("OSDComputerName") $var.Value("OSDComputerName") = ($OSDComputerName).Replace("TW7", "TW10")

New PowerShell Based SCCM OSD Frontend
tregelen replied to taylorblakeharris's question in Frontends, HTA's and Web Services
Did you consider having the frontend create a variable such as 'ValidBuild' = True or something when you click 'Begin'? After that just add a step after the script but before the format to run a command line that is designed to fail the task sequence but set its options to only run if 'ValidBuild' is not True. That way if the script does fail the whole TS will fail and not format the disk. -
Push account type local admin vs domain admin
tregelen replied to jackvdbuk's topic in Configuration Manager 2012
You should have a domain service account created and added to the local admins group on the machines. I believe that is part of the MS best practices. -
New PowerShell Based SCCM OSD Frontend
tregelen replied to taylorblakeharris's question in Frontends, HTA's and Web Services
It might be my intellectual property but it was designed and built on their hardware on their time so they own it. We have interesting laws here. I haven't looked much into using XMLs (it's on the ever growing list) but could you use Base64 for the image and reference that. For example in the PowerShell have $picturebox1.Image = [System.Convert]::FromBase64String('iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAADAAAAAwCAYAAABXAvmHAAAAAXNSR0IArs4c6QAAAARnQU1BAACx New PowerShell Based SCCM OSD Frontend
tregelen replied to taylorblakeharris's question in Frontends, HTA's and Web Services
Hey, looks great. I am in the process of making one myself here but lack of time is getting in the way. My intention is to have it more dynamic so it will read the site server and get any of the active 3rd party applications and add them to the list. I did this at my last job using a HTA but I want to convert to PowerShell (and due to various privacy laws I wasn't allowed to take the code with me when I left) -
You would set up IPHelpers (or DHCP scope options 66 and 67 but IPHelpers are preferred) to point any PXE requests to your primary site server (PSS). The boot WIM would download from the PSS but after that the machine will see that it is in Site B's boundary and use the local DP for the rest of its content as long as that content is available there. If it's not it will fall back to the PSS. If you start the rebuild from within Windows it will get all content locally including the boot WIM. This is the way that we have it set up for around 20 remote sites and it works fine.

Best Practice for Reference Images
tregelen replied to Kops's topic in System Center Configuration Manager (Current Branch)
I haven't created a reference image in a while as I have been using the base install.wim from the ISO but when I did it was always made on virtual hardware for the reasons given. The reason I changed to the base wim was because all the changes could be done on the fly with PowerShell and if anything changed it could be a small script change without having to recapture a new image. -
Just to clarify when you say Site A and Site B you mean two physical locations not two different sites within SCCM? I would just set up a distribution point at Site B to host the content for that location. You set the boundary groups for the respective sites to direct the content to their local DPs eg Boundary Group Site A - Content Location Site A Boundary Group Site B - Content Location Site B They shouldn't get content from the other site unless one is set up as a fallback. As you only have 400 machines you could even use a standard workstation in Site B as your DP. They can't do PXE requests like a server OS can but all other content for the OSD can be hosted there you just need to make sure that it is an always available machine preferably with a static IP.
