  1. Since my prepare configmgr client step is just timing out at this point what is the down side if I just skip this step before capturing my image?
  2. I have taken your advice and ran the steps listed. Install Deployment tools Join Workgroup Prepare ConfigMgr Client Prepare OS Capture the reference image It does the first two reboots then it gets to the third step which is prepare configmgr client. After about 30 minutes on this one step it fails with these logs. Timed out waiting for ccmexec service to be fully operational PrepareSMSClient 9/10/2009 12:41:35 PM 3828 (0x0EF4) Failed to wait for Ccmexec service to be fully operational (0x80004005) PrepareSMSClient 9/10/2009 12:41:35 PM 3828 (0x0EF4) Failed waiting for client agent service to initialize. 3. Cool, thanks for the steps. I will just rebuild the PC and give it another shot. The reason I'm so hesitant is the PC uses ahci and the drivers are giving me a hard time when I try to sysprep. However, I've been working on a sysprep file with the mass storage drivers this weekend. I will give it a shot again. I guess it was my fault for adding the boot into PE mode step in there. Thanks again for your help guys. It's hard to find SCCM communities on the net.
  4. I was in the process of capturing the original image when this happened. So it never uploaded the image. I believe SCCM wrote some type of temporary boot image for the purpose of PE booting. Any idea how to change it back to the Windows install boot partition? I can reload the system it just took a long time to build this image up. Any suggestion would be appreciated.
  5. Anyone have any advice how I can get out of this boot manager? windows boot manager windows failed to start. a recent hardware or software change might be the cause. to fix the problem: 1. insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer. 2. choose your language settings then click next 3. click repair your computer if you do not have this disc contact yoru system adminsitrator or computer manufacturer for assistance. status: 0xc000000f info the boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible. enter continue.
  6. Ok I got this advertisement to popup on the client PC configured like below and it did not work. Keep in mind I removed all of the workgroup and sysprep stuff because I'm simply trying to make a backup of my image(at this point). I'm not trying to make this for the purposes of redeployment just yet. So then I decided perhaps it needed to load in WindowsPE. How else could it possibly capture the image right, if files are open? So I added this line. This advertisement came up in windows it loaded some files and said it needed to boot into PE to finish. It booted to PE and then failed. The reason I did this was I thought to myself how can it capture the reference machine while windows is in use? I figured it needed the boot WindowsPE sequence in there. When I looked at my logs I had the following: Variable 'OSDTargetSystemRoot' not found in the TS Environment. Unable to find offline OS for validation.. Verify the Prepare Operating System action has run before this action Element not found. (Error: 80070490; Source: Windows) CaptureSystemImage 9/4/2009 3:26:54 PM 1492 (0x05D4) Failed to validate for capture. Element not found. Execution of task sequence failed. Element not found. (Error: 80070490; Source: Windows) TSManager 9/4/2009 3:26:54 PM 1444 (0x05A4) I just figured out why this did not work as I'm reading my own post lol! "Unable to find offline OS for validation.. Verify the Prepare Operating System action has run before this action" I removed this step! Ok so now I know why this failed. Hopefully this will work if I try again. But I still need to get my OS back! See below the saga continues... Now I'm completely stuck as I spent hours building this image and now when I try to boot all I get is: windows boot manager windows failed to start. a recent hardware or software change might be the cause. to fix the problem: 1. insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer. 2. choose your language settings then click next 3. click repair your computer if you do not have this disc contact yoru system adminsitrator or computer manufacturer for assistance. status: 0xc000000f info the boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible. enter continue. I believe what happened is when I put boot into PE into my task sequence it created some type of temporary partition so that it could load and made it bootable? Now I'm stuck with what looks to be a Vista boot manager, I dont ever remember seeing this screen in XP. It is greye colored. (Remember this is an XP imamge) If there is any way to get back into my OS I would truely appreciate any advice.
  7. Thanks for the link. I got the two confused. With softwware updates when you set it to expire it means they need to be installed ASAP. Looks like with task sequence expire means no longer available. This is probably the cause of my problem. Advertisement will expire Advertises the task sequence to destination computers for a limited time only. Be default, this option is cleared.
  8. Cool, thanks for the feedback. I'm assuming other than that everything looks good? What about the expiration? If I want it to run immediately I'm under the impression I'm supposed to set it to expire so the client thinks it needs to run it asap. Is this correct? Or should I remove that as well?
  9. Yea my site is discovered it looks to be working normally. The expiration checkbox, that means if it's after that date the client has to download the application as soon as possible correct? Not expiration from the perspective that it is no longer relevant?
  10. Ok here is what I have done and it does not appear to be working...
  11. Which log file would I check if this is not occuring automatically?
  12. I assigned it as mandatory it should run automatically correct?
  13. So you're saying booting to PXE is the wrong way to go about this? If that is the case how do I force it to start? I've let the OS just sit there and it never begins the capture process. Should I set the advertisement to expire?
  14. Also, how are you kicking off this advertisement? Are you PXE booting or does it just start running if Windows is logged in? I'm a little confused by this process.
  15. I tried it just like that. I must have something setup incorrectly. Can you tell anything by my log files above?
  16. So in this step I tried to disable the step of booting into PE environment The step (Install Deployment Tools) must be running in full OS TSManager 9/1/2009 8:16:25 PM 1440 (0x05A0) Failed to run the action: Install Deployment Tools. 17. Perhaps I'm doing this wrong and I shouldn't be booting into PE environment to capture my image? If not how do I initiate the capture process?
  18. Ok, so I changed the setting to this. Cleared PXE and rebooted into PE environment. After PC rebooted here are my error logs. The step (Install Deployment Tools) must be running in full OS TSManager 9/1/2009 7:44:29 PM 1448 (0x05A8) Failed to run the action: Install Deployment Tools. The request is not supported. 19. Ok I have it setup like the 3rd box in the image above. I added this task sequence to a collection and rebooted the PC. But it did not work. Here are the errors i received. 20. I'm trying to break down my XP build and capture into 2 parts. One the build and two the capture. This way I have a pause in between so I can load custom software/settings etc. My question is how do I separate the capture phase from the build phase. Attached is the task process I believe the way it is supposed to be. My question is do I need to add the "restart in pe phase" to the capture phase? Is this the proper way to set this up? Any help would be appreciated.
  21. If anyone has this problem in the future here is how you can fix it. First download all the drivers Intel chipset etc. Import them into the drivers and create a package. Make the package part of the OS deployment. The other drivers that I added outside of the system specific ones were the Intel Matrix Manager which can be found here: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=2101&OSFullName=Windows+XP+Professional*〈=eng&strOSs=44&submit=Go%21 to extract the files type in iata89enu.exe -A -p c:\extractHere Once the files are extracted import them into the driver package. Make sure the BIOS is set for AHCI and then do a build a capture of XP. I'm not sure which one of these steps corrected my issue so I'm posting them all.
  22. It is the clients preference to leave AHCI rather than ATA. I'm assuming I can change it to ATA load the Intel chipset drivers then change it back to AHCI? I'm going to try and see if that works.
  23. Yea XP on a Lenovo laptop. I think at this point I'm just going to rebuild my image using build and capture. I believe the problem is with AHCI. I figure if I can reload it and load all the XP software/drivers from Lenovo I can just recapture the image.
  24. All, I'm trying to load a machine and it seems like it installs fine then it reboots and it appears it didn't write the boot partition. I receive the following error “UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME†I pulled the logs and they are as follows: Failed to save environment to (80070057) Failed to save the current environment block. This is usually caused by a problem with the program. Please check the Microsoft Knowledge Base to determine if this is a known issue or contact Microsoft Support Services for further assistance. 25. Thanks this is exactly where you said it would be Site Database>System Status>Package Status.
