SCCM SUP failing to synchroinse with Micrsoft

I am aware that we need not to configure WSUS for software update. SCCM itself take care of it. But just to check whether proxy is working properly cant we configure the proxy setting on WSUS and check the synchronization manually? or will it create any problem doing so? Since I am facing the same problem. There is no error in WCM and WSUSContrl logs but sync is getting failed with above error. I had configured the WSUS with proxy setting to check synchronization. For some days it got worked but now facing the problem with synchronization. Please suggest.
