Good morning, Over the past few weeks, I've been attempting to upgrade a Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 (x64) client to Windows 10 1903 CBB (SAC I think its called now) x64. Each time, it gets through the process to about 78%, and then rolls back the installation. I've tried using an OS Upgrade package, I've tried manually using an ISO, even creating a DVD to complete the upgrade, and they all come back with the same errors. I've attached setuperr.log (from the $WINDOWS.~BT folder). What am I missing that is causing this to fail? setuperr.log

Whether I do or don't, it still fails with the same information.

I'm using the "upgrade operating system task sequence", using the full media for 1903 x64 Semi Annual Channel (formerly CBB I believe). My attempt is to go from 1607 LTSB to 1903 CBB. I have an OSDSetupAdditionalUpgradeOptions specified, as the entry for Product Key didn't seem to put the "/pkey" into the command line. From smsts.log on a box that was affected, this is the resulting command it is running. Is it at all possible to search the version field using something that would show me "Not Equal to" or "Less than or Equal to"? Thanks!

Unfortunately, the log file was clear, so I went ahead and uninstalled and reinstalled my MP, and all is working well. If it happens again though, that'll be the first file I check. Thanks @anyweb!

I'll take a look today at that log. But it sure seems like that could be it.

I've checked DCOM launch and activation permissions to make sure that the "local service" account has launch permissions, which it does and it is currently set to launch using "Local Service"

Good morning My MP is showing the following error in MPcontrol.log. As well, in monitoring/system status/site status, the Management Point role is showing the following: Total 0 bytes. Also, the service "ccmexec" is stopped, and will not start. Other stuff: DP is HTTPS enabled, "allow intranet-only connections", using a PKI certificate, MP is HTTPS enabled "allow intranet-only connections" as well. Wireless clients are domain joined, and all of these application deployments work fine on wired clients. Any help where to look is appreciated!

@Kingskawn Here's my XML file I'm using. Feel free to use and modify etc. Also, there is a group policy under Computer Configuration > Policies > administrative templates > Start Menu and Taskbar > Start Layout. Enable the setting, and give it a path (C:\windows\tb_layout\layoutmodification.xml). Use a group policy preference to place a folder and the file into whatever location for the machines needing the custom layout. When group policy runs and the next time those computers log in, they should have the custom start menu layout. LayoutModification.xml

The script does work, but the collection that "should" update still doesn't reflect the member, and in turn, causes failure to install the applications. I'm not sure if anyone else may have success doing this with a collection, but I think your best bet is to create a staging collection with those members added manually rather than trying to do it dynamic. Here's my findings so far: The script does work during OSD. I checked the console and did a refresh of the page during the script running and the hourglass icons appeared on the collections. My AD computer object is viable (no longer a placeholder) but in looking at the log file for the active directory discovery (adsysdis.log), it shows the following error: GetIPAddr - Host not found resolving FQDN "Lib-TestDummy.domainname.edu". One suggestion I might say try, is create a standalone application Task Sequence like this, and deploy the Task Sequence to your collection ("Academic...") as a required deployment. Image your systems, update your memberships manually (or fire off that PowerShell Script) after the systems are at the windows logon screen, and see if those collections reflect the new systems. You could also do the same application TS below (or just as a step in your OSD TS), and when you are importing the computers into SCCM, go ahead and add them to a "Staging" collection for those specific applications. Then, operate as normally to deploy applications to those dynamic collections.

Richard, I just went through and pre-staged a computer in AD, and created a device collection with an OU query, and a collection variable with a few values of applications. I'm going to see if I run into the same issues with the membership not updating. Richard, If you've manually added the computer objects to an OSD Device Collection, there might be something wrong with one of your applications in you install application step. Have you checked to make sure each application is distributed to the DP? This statement doesn't make sense. The applications you are deploying using the install application step shouldn't be reliant on which collections the computer objects are in, unless you're doing something like this (Separate Task Sequence to deploy applications to a specific collection): If you're deploying applications during OSD, you should have a step similar to this (Install application), that is not reliant upon which device collection the object is in. Also, curious why are you pre-staging computer accounts in AD, is it so you don't have to manually move them to the appropriate OU afterwards?

@GarthMJ you’re a lifesaver. Looks like my offending collection was trying to look at installed applications, display name, then I had it AND to AI class for Product Version. whatever reason I did that, removing that bad logic fixed it. I owe you lunch sometime, somehow.

In SCCM, any time I attempt to update a collection, it causes tempdb to fill up, and eventually causes SQL server to stop working properly. SQL Server databases reside on their own drive, and each time it gets hung on SMS_COLLECTION_AUXILIARY_EVALUATOR. I've specified a 50 GB limit for tempdb and a 30 GB limit for the log db. Any suggestions.

Looking at those moved to "BADMIFS" - there are a a few that are 49,982 kb, 49,039 kb, 48,851 kb.. But most are about 2-3 megabytes under the 50 meg limit. As for restarting the smsexec service, I did.

Good morning, These errors have been occurring continually for the past two days. I've been using the solution since the box has been online (set to 3200000 per https://www.enhansoft.com/blog/how-to-increase-the-maximum-file-size-of-management-information-files-mif ). Also, unsure if it's related, but my collections for applications aren't updating. Inventory Data Loader failed to process the file C:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\inboxes\auth\dataldr.box\Process\HWGS6LG4.MIF because it is larger than the defined maximum allowable size of 3200000. Solution: Increase the maximum allowable size, which is defined in the registry key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\SMS\Components\SMS_INVENTORY_DATA_LOADER\Max MIF Size (the default is 5 MB), and wait for Inventory Data Loader to retry the operation. Any suggestions?
