Sorry - I have posted this twice !? finger trouble this morning.

Good morning all, Firstly, I would like to thank niall and all the contributors here to the fantastic amount of information available.! Next - I would like to ask a few questions, after detailing the test environment I have installed. OK, so I have a lab setup, running 2012server,sql2012,sccm2012r2 (CAS and PRI) runs fine captures and deploys win7 and win81 without issue, using vanilla sccm task sequences. I have these TS's created and targeted accordingly. capture win7 capture win8 deploy win7 deploy win8 These work a treat. I have now added MDT 2013 into the mix to have a play. I have now created an MDT Client Task sequence, which does everything my vanilla TS's did, but is more verbose, I.E. asks me for various things (OS, passwords, bitlocker, etc.) but it works a treat So I now have 5 TS's - one of which is MDT template based. I have tweeked this MDT TS in the UDI designer to add both my images win7 and win81, in the hope that the single MDT TS can be used to install either win7 or win8 depending on what is selected by the user when they PXE and start the MDT TS. My MDT TS still works and the usual UDI questions get asked, I get prompted to select either Win7 or WIN81, but it only installs win7. Upon further inspection of the MDT TS, the apply operating system step is set specifically to the WIN7 image I specified when I created the MDT TS. So I can see why its doing this, but have no idea how to achieve user selected OS within the UDI. After all this: My question is... Can I use a single MDT TS to accomplish this task? If so - what have I done wrong.lol or do I create another MDT TS with the win8 image in, deploy both to same collection, and have user pick which to run before they get asked the UDI Questions. Is this clear to anyone out there !!??? Anyway - hope this makes some sense, and hope someone knows where I am going wrong, or what I am not understanding about MDT !!! Thanks for your time. Regards WAZZIE !

Hi All, Been a while !! I have a production SCCM system in place, and seem to have inherited sole responsibility for all sccm matters. this is fine, however recently I was asked to create some standalone media, which again in itself is an easy task. Upon trying to create this, via the gui method I get a dialog saying: creation failed "a certificate is missing or has an empty value for an important field, such as subject or issuer name." I set the sccm sp1 environment up to be mixed mode, i.e. http I am not aware of making any chages relating to certificates so I am a bit stumpted as to what is causing this. the environment the system is running does however have a PKI / CA sub CA - but I know very little about this.... I had a look at the createtsmedia.log : it also said the following: could not find trusted root key for site XXX in wmi failed to create media 0x800b0108, details=" createmedia finished with error code 800b0108 I have tested creation on all task sequences - all fail with this issue. All task sequences work fine via pxe.... Anyone seen this before ? Anyone know why I am getting this now, after 8 months with sccm 2012 sp1 working fine ? Anyone know how to fix it !!!! or can direct me in to the area I should be looking at.. We have a very slack attitude to change at our organisation which doesn't help, so al;though the issue looks like sccm related it could well be pki, cert or some other infrastructure change that I am not aware of by colleagues. Anyway - Any help or experience in this would be great and hopefully I can return the favour sometime Once again thanks !!

Thanks any web, yes it's a full appv lab. This is all currently in a lab based off your wonderful notes, running 2012server, 2012 SQL and sccm 2012 sp1. Everything works fine OSd patching etc. Can't wait to get all the r2editions and build it again, see what's new. So to confirm, if I buy a tpm module for the app v host the clients won't be able to virtualise that piece of hardware? Looks like its time I get a small switch, a real tpm PC and get some bitlocker action!!!! On a real box. Thanks so much for you gems of info.
-
Hi all, I'm looking to test bitlocker on my lab, only my host PC doesn't have a tpm module. When I use a task sequence to pre provision it fails... After my ts builds the client vm I can't enable blocker either as it says no tpm module present or enabled. I have located a Tpm module to purchase and plug in, this isn't a problem to purchase, or am I missing something elsewhere... Any help or advice appreciated as always, Regards, wazzie

All, I have a question for you. At our workplace we have a CAS and PRI SCCM 2012 SP1 install. Its all working fine. The boss has been moaning about sql licensing, as we now have sql on cas and pri. I really don't see the benefit of putting the cas and pri sql instances on our cluster, now that it is up and replicating fine between cas and pri. Anyone have any experience moving the sccm 2012 sp1 DB's. Putting the cas and pri on a cluster surely then has all my eggs in one basket, cluster failure means sccm 2012 failure. Any thoughts anyone Please.
-
Have found out this relates to SEDO lockstates, however, not sure how to fix it. Probably gonna recreate all my work on the Primary server and move anything off the CAS. Will keep you all posted. Regards.

Hi All, I recently had a problem with my cas site, which I restored and this seemed to go fine from my backups. However !!! I have found some of the packages, and task sequences created before the failure are now only available as readonly. The console isn't read only, just a few items in it.... Couple of packages and TS's ========== "The following object are not available and will not be edited" Details : retreiving object ownership ========== Anyone seen this, or know a solution. I have had a look at the roles and security, but these seem to be in place and all correct. I will keep digging however I was hoping someone here may have seen this and know what im missing !! Thanks and regards, WAZZIE

OK - yep - got this going with out the download of each component of the task sequence. It was the client package, had to recreate this, also specified all packages in TS are created in a share on the DP. Now it runs over the network, and is faster than pulling each part down and then running it. Thanks to you - ANYWEB / RocketMan / Oneone - this is fantastic help and fantastic news !! I will keep playing, next I am going for the service pack of my lab to SP1 Once again - Thanks.
-
OK chaps - i will follow these suggestions, I will run through them all and let you know. Niall, I have some documentation regarding restoring a cas which i had to do recently and worked successfully. If you want it, i can get it to you somehow and you can add it to the docs / procedures. Might help someone down the line ? Anyway - back on topic, I will let you know how i get on tomorrow - once again thanks - speak tomorrow.

Hi All, My task sequence deployment doesnt have the option "Access directly..." only download content locally from dist point.... I will recreate my deployment for the TS and see if i can get the option to show up. weird - or have i messed up somewhere thanks anyweb / oneone - i will have a tinker and keep you posted
-
ok anyweb, think i may have missed that - i will check it out - thanks so much.

Hi all, Hope your all well, and cracking on with your sccm 2012 sp1 environments. Everything is cool in my sccm 2012 environment, however my task sequences for xp, 7 osd seem to want to always download the images, and each software package locally before running. This is making my task sequence take longer than is nessesary. I have set the "content to be avalable from the dp share" on each package and the osd images, and retried a few times now, however every piece of the task sequence downloads to the client, then executes. The bigger the package or image, the longer it takes. What am i missing here dudes !!! Look forward to being hit round the head with a wet fish for my noob question ! Thanks and regards, WAZZIE

I think i have screweed it in the UDI designer. Finding it quite hard to get my head round actually. Anyone know what i am doing wrong. I have updated my DP etc im pretty sure i have the latest file as per the tutorial. Any tid-bits appreciated and i will keep trying till i get this nice and working. Regards WAZZIE

i did find this in the forums here : http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?/topic/563-how-can-i-target-applications-to-specific-hardware/page__hl__conditions#entry804 Problem is this is a bit specific to latitudes / dell equip. We use dell latitudes, so this is a feasible answer, However what if we change supplier, this would mean we will need to keep an eye on this condition and ensure we target laptops correctly with any new changes to model / make. Anything similar for systemenclosure / chassistype in wmi ? Again, thanks for taking the time to have a look, and hopefully someone has done something similar.
-
Hi Guys and Gals, Hope this finds you all well, and having a great start to 2013. I had a quick search of the forums, and didnt find anything related Also hit google / bing and found nearly what i am after. I thought I would ask here as someone is bound to have done what i am trying to achieve. I would like to set a condition on some software in my sccm 2012 task sequence to only deploy certain apps if the client is a laptop, and only install some others if it is a desktop. Thus a single task sequence with a bit of logic. At the moment i have 2 task sequences one for laptops and one for desktops. - This is fine, just wanted to know how to do it really. I have located the codes for the chassis type / system enclosure, and locally on my box, have been able to return the chassis type / enclosure type via wmi. I have also seen this is alot easier if you integrate mdt 2012 and use the ISLAPTOP, ISDESKTOP, IS SERVER env vars. I have also seen the "check to see if has a battery >0" example somewhere on google. Using chass/enclosure as the condition is better than battery>0 HOWEVER.... how easy is it to do the same thing without installing MDT I was thinking wmi, but cant seem to get my command prompt syntax to be valid within sccm. Has anyone done this or similar before ? And if so - could you point me in any direction. As always, any help is really appreciated, Thanks and regards, WAZZIE
