problems deploying Firefox
EMFschool replied to EMFschool's question in Deploy software, applications and drivers
Hi, I've some good news Now I understand why the deployement was always stopped. We have just to do one thing, and this thing is .. nothing! I think that the server checks everything, I mean the actions on the computer, or if the network is in use. My boss told me that some deployement software wait a moment, until the users aren't doing nothing. Then, the deployement starts and the notification for updates comes up. I think it's correct, because I waited something like 10 minutes, and then the deployement was ready. So, nothing with rights, with users, etc. I hope this will help people ! Cheers Daniel M. -

Hi everybody ! I thought that I'd correct the problem, but now I've noticed that the problems aren't the rights .. When I want to deploy the application, the CAS.log says something like that : "Download request only, ignoring location update" => Does it mean that he doesn't find the package in the server? I don't understand why, it has already worked and before that he has a "Raising Event" with different instances, like "SoftDistCacheSizeModifiedEvent", "SoftDistDownloadCanceledEvent" or "SoftDistDownloadStartedEvent". In the cache folder of CCM, I can see that there's a folder with the ID of the package (In my case EMF00005.70), but they are different for the 2 clients. The Seven client has the good version, and the XP client has the "EMF00005.40" .. I don't know why .. One more thing, sometimes, in the same log file, I can see an error which says : "Error: DeleteDirectory. - Failed to delete Directory" .. Maybe the rights? Maybe something else? Who makes a request? The client asks for updates, or the server sends notifications? Maybe these questions will help me .. Thanks for your answers, and all your ideas are welcome. Daniel M. -

Let me explain : We have created the users like SMSadmin and SMSread. These accounts are in the groups of the administrators of the server and of the domain. I don't know if they are the network access accounts in your example (I did't understand very well what you mean) but these are the users that I've created in the server. Then, when the server want to deploy some applications, the configuration says that the client should first download the package and then launch it locally. As the rights aren't set correctly, the client received the package, but didn't download it (it's on the log files, that's why it was a bit strange). Now that the rights are correct, the client received the notification and could download. I don't know if I answered your question, but that was my problem, and now it works ! EDIT : Yes, it works, but only in my XP client. I've now a Seven client, and I've the same problem, even with correct rights .. -

Hi ! I just found my problem, it was because of the rights in the folder in %windir%/system32/CCM/Cache. The program would install the package, but the rights aren't correct. I set the rights for the SMSadmin of the domain in the local computer and now it works It was because the Domain has not the rights on the machine. Thanks for the help ! Cheers -

The client has not installed, I don't know if he has downloaded it because in the Cache, the folder is empty .. Strange no? I also checked some log files in the client computer, like execmgr and CAS, but nothing looks anormal .. I don't know why he don't download it. For example, in the CAS.log, there are 2 lines which confirms that all went good, but in real nothing happened. These are the 2 lines : Download started for content EMF00004.5 Raising event ... (too much things, then ..) instance of SoftDistDownloadStartedEvent { ClientID = correct (I don't want to give these infos ) DateTime = correct MachineName = WEMFSCCMUSER (correct) PackageId = EMF00004 (correct) PackageName = EMF00004 (correct) PackageVersion = 5 ProcessID = 1880 SiteCode = EMF (correct) ThreadID = 724 } I don't know if I should check others log files, but with these it seems that everything's going fine .. EDIT : I'm going to try with a Windows 7 client. Maybe it's a problem from the OS? I saw that you tested with a Vista client, I'll tell you the news tomorrow. Thanks for your assistance -

Thanks for the reply So .. 1. All the firewalls are disabled, I don't need them in a local network, but they are disabled on the client and on the server too. 2. Do you mean in the Software Distribution / Packages / MyPackage / Package status? (Sorry, but I use SCCM in french, maybe the names are not the same) But if it is, it's installed. It's the fourth version. Do you think there's a problem with my client? And is the yellow shield a "good thing"? Thanks for reply ! (And for the guide too) -

Why did my post just "disappear" !? I wrote a big comment, and it was a good question ! *furious* EDIT : I understand now Sorry -
Hi everybody, First of all, sorry if my english is not very good, but I'm a simple student in a school I have a problem with the deployement of applications with SCCM 2007. I had to post here because the topic for it is locked .. I explain my problem : I followed all your guide, from install to finish. I've a project that consists to make a local network, with one client (XP SP3) and one server, which is SCCM 2007. Note : I've no connexions to internet, it's only local (and I'm almost sure that we don't need it in my case). I've installed the client trough "the network". I can see the computer, and everything seems to be good, he has the new icons, the name site is correct and the configurations on the Configuration Manager panel are good too. Even the user rights are okay. BUT when I want to deploy Firefox like you, I can't see if it works or not. I've searched the log files, but they don't explain what's the problem. They just say something like : "The state changed from WaitingContent to WaitingContent" ( => It's the execmgr.log file in the client computer). I don't know if there are other log files which can help me, or give me more informations. I don't know if it is, but I can see an icon (the yellow shield which means that updates are downloading) in my client's computer, it only says "Downloading : 0%" since two days. I don't know if the updates are from the server or from Microsoft. One more thing, nothing happened in my client computer like a window, or another icon like in your example. Thanks for all your answers, and sorry for the mistakes in my post Cheers Daniel M.
