i have tried NAP, but somehow i feel NAP works better in proper combination, i mean it works properly with server 2008 and vista and server 2008r2 and windows 7.

where have you placed the download location for the WSUS updates ??

I faced the similar kind of issue. if you are in a corporate environment then check for the VLAN's. Also check for the host file. Let me know more info on this, i will surely help you on this...

have you set the boundaries ?? also make sure that the user account that you are using should have domain admin rights on AD.

i believe there is no indexing service running.

slowness of winxp may be due to many reasons.. 1) indexing of files. 2) less space on C drive. 3) Antivirus 4) unwanted softwares ..etc... Solution : eventviewer will not report any slowness issues. try to stop the indexing service from services.msc. Defragment the C drive. use defragler by piriform. The solution that i am giving is only based on your post, if you could tell me much more details i am sure i will help you ...

you must replace same version of ntoskrnl thats contained in the oS in which it has to be replaced. when you look at the file verison of ntoskrnl, it also shows the HAL.dll file.

The solution is very simple. The mstsc is not detecting all the monitors. Use mstsc /admin to connect to work pc. before you connect click on options >display tab > check the checkbox which says use all my monitors.
