Hi all, I have an error that has plagued me since, I think, upgrading to SCCM 2012 R2. I have a handful of OSD's which I have setup and generally, they all exhibit the same issue at seemingly random times. I could have multiple machines on my bench all using the same OSD and a couple of them will hang during the installation of applications. So, it installs the Windows image, sets up the CCM client, reboots and finishes the client install and then starts installing applications. When it hits about the third or fourth application it just sits there and does nothing for as long as the machine stays on (no error). It seems to be something that happens after a fixed amount of time (not sure how long), probably ~10 minutes after the last reboot. It makes no difference how I order the apps to install. I've sorted the log list by date and time to try and find an error somewhere but I can't see anything. The really frustrating thing is, if I have a machine that is failing it will usually keep failing repetitively but then suddenly it might start working and completed the TS all the way through. Can anyone give me any advice as to what logs I should keep a closer eye on (client/server) or if anyone has heard of anything similar. It's really frustrating when you have hundreds of machines to do! Sorry if I'm a bit light on info, I'm not sure what to provide as I'm still learning! Cheers!

Two questions The 7zip and Firefox are applications, which I can easily add/change an icon. Is there a similar process or method to make the "programs" from Packages have icons? 2nd question - Some of my applications don't show icons in Add/Remove Programs, While this doesn't really cause any issues other than it is less aesthetically pleasing, I am curious has anyone else come across this, and if so, is there a fix?

I'm in the process of automating reader so that it downloads and creates the application in SCCM We use a global condition to get the version of reader out of the registry. I have two deployment types, One installs the full reader and the second just installs the patch. On the second deployment type we use the requirement Between operand with the values of "17.011.130000" "17.011.130080" that way it will only install the patch it fails on the between operand. If I use greaterthan or others it works fine. Any help???? Here is the error message. HI, hope I can explain my problem. I have been asked to deploy applications at deployment. I have been given multiple unique identifiers (UDI) with multiple apps assign to each UID, on a spreadsheet. I can't pre-provision the machines as there are potentially thousands, and can't user deployments as they are shared devices. I am using UDI wizard so could capture the UID as a variable. any ideas on how I do this, without added the machine into collections post build. thanks any ideas welcome.

Deploying CMTrace as an Application
narcoticmind posted a question in Deploy software, applications and drivers
Just tested this thing and I'm kind of thrilled.. so I wanted to deploy cmtrace as an CM12 application, I did it with the quick-and-dirty method. So, I created a new application, and for the deployment type I checked script and the actual install program was as follows xcopy.exe ".\*.*" "%windir%\system32" /D /E /C /I /Q /H /R /Y /S And the uninstall program was as follows del.exe %windir%\system32\cmtrace.exe Detection method was of course checking the presence of cmtrace in %windir%\system32. The niceness about this is, that now I can simply run cmtrace on any computer in the network and I was thinking that the new app-model is way better than the old package deployment, what do you guys think? Has anyone else thought about deploying software like this? I know it would be better to handle it by doing a script that installs the cmtrace to %programfiles% and so on...- 13 replies

To illustrate this, here the AppEnforce log after OSD, I deployed right after the application, here the result : For information, this app have dependencies : Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 and Microsoft Office 2010 Primary Interop Assemblies. These prerequisites was installed with no problem. I don't realy undestand, someone already had the same problem ? Thanks

Hello all, Is it best practice to remove old revisions of applications if they are no longer needed? The reason I ask, is I seem to be encountering a random old version of an application being installed, but I cannot find any remnants of the previous application. The issue at hand is Mozilla Firefox. At one time, I had two deployment types. One for 32-bit and one for 64-bit. I've removed the 64-bit deployment type & files, I've redistributed content and updated the application to a new revision. Yet, when the install runs it seems to install both a 32-bit install, and a 64-bit. Is there a way to narrow down why this is happening? Or is it better to remove the application entirely and start fresh? Thanks

We have a scenario in our organisation where we want to map a huge lot of environment variables for specific machines. Each and every variables are unique to each machine. There are around 6000 variables which needs to be mapped to 6000 machines. Is there any way we can handle it through SCCM ?

Hello, I am wondering if it is possible to deploy an application update ONLY to clients that already have the application installed. For example Bob-PC - Java installed Tom-PC - Java installed Jim-PC - Not installed Fred-PC - Java installed Mike-PC - Not installed I'd like only the systems that have it to get it, not every system. Thanks!

Good Afternoon all, I know there is some logic when updating the source files for an application that can differentiate installing onto a 32 bit system or a 64 bit system, and also that there are detection methods to determine if something is installed. What I would like to know (or if anyone has done this) is how you can appropriately use logic to determine which software to install. Here's the example scenario if I lost anyone: Computer A is 64-bit Windows 10 and has 32-bit installed Mozilla Firefox 51 Computer B is 64-bit Windows 10 and has 64-bit installed Mozilla Firefox 51 Since computer A has 32-bit Firefox installed, go ahead and install 32-bit Firefox 54 Since computer B has 64-bit Firefox installed, go ahead and install 64-bit Firefox 54 I haven't tried this myself yet, but I didn't want to go down the rabbit hole and get lost. I have been able to successfully deploy a 32-bit and 64-bit application that uses the logic "Windows X 32-bit" and "Windows X 64-bit" to differentiate based upon processor architecture, but I don't believe the same concept will work here. Thanks!

I've created an application to install Mozilla Firefox. What I am trying to do is be able to Install either the Rapid Release version or the Extended Support Release version based upon which version a computer already has installed. I created the application and two deployment types that use registry based detection for the default key with a version #. (54.0 for RR and 52.2.0 for ESR). How can I prevent one then the other from installing, or specify that only the matching one that the client has will get installed? (I attempted to do this, and it installed the ESR, then the RR version). Thanks!

I've read some varying info on deploying applications using variables. What I'm trying to do is that lets day I have a machine name "PD-000001" and one named "EH-000001" i'd like to install a certain set of applications based upon the first two or three characters of the computer's name which indicates the department the computer is in. Anyone have any good reading on this or have done it? Thanks!

Hey all, I need some advice, tips, tricks, and help. Currently, I have no issues deploying Software Packages or Applications that are MSI based. However, there are a lot of software's out there that I want to install in a TS, as well as have it show up in Software Center. The software I am trying to create a package/application for are so far, Firefox and Dropbox. I assume however, once I get one package working, I can duplicate the process for the rest. Thanks in advance,

Hey Guys - I recently started at a place where SCCM 2012 1511 had recently been installed. Even though the person who installed it had no prior experience with SCCM, it seemed to be running pretty well. Today, though, after issues with newly deployed clients, I found there was an issue with the Management Point. I've researched and tried many things, but wanted to post what's going on in case others had suggestions... Issues in Test URLs When going to either site below, I'd get a 500 error - http://primaryfqdn/sms_mp/.sms_aut?MPlist - http://primaryfqdn/sms_mp/.sms_aut?MPcert When going to them on the primary, I got an error that I didn't have permissions for the web.config file in the MP folder Issues in Server Logs: mpcontrol.log Call to HttpSendRequestSync failed for port 80 with status code 500, text: Internal Server Error SMS_MP_CONTROL_MANAGER 3/1/2016 2:49:00 PM 4972 (0x136C) STATMSG: ID=5436 SEV=E LEV=M SOURCE="SMS Server" COMP="SMS_MP_CONTROL_MANAGER" SYS=FQDN SITE=ABC PID=8168 TID=10576 GMTDATE=Tue Mar 01 12:44:12.091 2016 ISTR0="500" ISTR1="Internal Server Error" ISTR2="" ISTR3="" ISTR4="" ISTR5="" ISTR6="" ISTR7="" ISTR8="" ISTR9="" NUMATTRS=0 SMS_MP_CONTROL_MANAGER 3/1/2016 6:44:12 AM 10576 (0x2950) Resolution? After restarting this server and the SQL server (both Windows 2012 R2), I installed IIS 6 Tools then ran cscript %SYSTEMDRIVE%\inetpub\adminscripts\adsutil.vbs SET W3SVC/AppPools/Enable32bitAppOnWin64 0. I also added Read permissions for the local IIS_usrs account to the web.config file. Once the above was complete, all errors in mpcontrol.log were resolved. Also, I could successfully refresh policy dfor the client on my PC (couldn't before) Hooray! -- BUT -- Still Issues? With the current IIS log stil open in CMTrace, I still see numerous 500 lines plus an occasional 404. I can also now visit the App Catalog - BUT - when I try to install a basic application (advertised as available), I get the error saying "The security information for this application could not be verified... On my workstation, I manually refreshed policy for Machine and Application about 15 minutes ago. If I open my LocationServices.log file, though, I see tons of recent errors: In StatusAgent.log, I get frequent "Failed to determine MP type. Error 0x0" ...and in ccmexec.log, I'm getting the below currently... Any suggestions? Thanks! UPDATE Just to see what happens, I ran CCMClean on my workstation, renamed the old CCM and ccmsetup folders, and am re-deploying the client from the primary right now. I'm curious to see what virgin log files report. UPDATE #2 Well that was fast... While monitoring ccmsetup.log (once it appeared), I got the below errors. Note: Most blurred out sections are the FQDN of the primary. UPDATE #3 Argh - seems DHCP decided to give me a boundary which wasn't on the boundary list provided initially... Should be good now at least for client install...

So I have a meeting later this afternoon to train our Service Desk on how they should be imaging machines in our environment and being the good engineer I am I setup a test yesterday to just "make sure" things were still working. As you can tell, they aren't... I noticed my task sequence was hanging on installing an application that normally installed without issue... Frustration to say the least. So, I tried to see if I could just deploy the application, like I did when I originally created it and it worked, but it would stay stuck at "Downloading 0%" Long story short and after some digging, I took a look at the ContentTransferManager.log and see the following entries: CAS logs shows this: The application source files live on another NAS/storage server, and I've checked the permissions so that Everyone has access to them just to get that out of the way but I need to stress that it was working and now its not... No idea when it could have broke either. I have validated the application, I have removed it and re-added it, and I have even removed the distribution point role from the server and re-added it to no avail (pain in the but btw). Distmgr.log shows the application as being successfully distributed and GUI shows that application in the green. I can still deploy updates and I can deploy packages, but NOT applications now. Maddening!

Hi 80% of or deployed applications are done under a user context, if we need to remove them from the devices, but the same user never logs onto those devices again, I.e. remove under the system context. will this work or is there another method, we are getting grief from our licencing dept for redundant install everywhere due to hot desk'ing. thanks Rob

Hello, I definitely cannot understand the monitoring part !!!! Do you know why there are sometimes inconsistencies between the Deployment Status Summary that you can see in the Monitoring>Deployment tab and the Deployment Status Per Deployment Type that you can see by clicking on View Status ? (See file attached) I really love to know more about this because if we cannot monitor correctly the deployments we made, it would be difficult to know what to do in case of failure because we don't even know those ...

Would anybody happen to know what may be causing my packages to sit at 0.0% compliance once deployed to any specific collection? Applications deploy within 20 minutes, so there's no issues there. I need a specific package that references a .bat file togo out and uninstall ALL Java on a specific collection, but the package that contains the .bat file, will not deploy. It's been "deployed" longer than the software cycle so that's not what Im waiting for. Zero errors on DP. Also, would any of you knowledgable helpful folks be able to shed some light on scripting the deployment of the .bat file via Appplication that install Java 8u51? I've tried it multiple ways, but no success? Thank you in advance for all your support.

OK Guys. I was preparing for a Java update in our environment and made one application supersede all other Java applications. I did not have any active Java deployments but yet when I came in this morning, low and behold, Java had started updating across the organization! Turns out, the same Java application was in a Task Sequence which was deployed as available to a large number of machines so SCCM started updating Java on them. I read that this was sent in as a design change but did not make it into 2012 R2. My question is how do you deploy available task sequences and what is best practice? We are not currently utilizing unattended PC builds so I don't deploy any Required Task Sequences. I have thought about deleting all my deployments and then just deploying to specific collections and have the technician add whichever PC they wanted to image to said collection beforehand. This just seems counter intuitive. Any thoughts? Anyone been burned by this before? SCCM 2012 R2

Hi Everyone Strange problem we seem to be getting - wonder if anyone else has found the same issue... Standard task sequence for deploying Windows 7 x86 and some standard software, used on 7 remote sites each using a local distribution point One site seems to keep failing, on installing a custom application. Same task sequence works on other sites without issue on same make and model of machine Rebuilt the distribution point onto the same hardware, from Svr2008 up to Svr2012R2 - still failed task sequence Built a new DP as a virtual machine for testing - distributed content needed - failed the task sequence Convert the application to a package and it works fine! - but that seems to be a step backwards, and the TS works without issue at all other sites! Anyone have any ideas on what to look at or try? Thanks John
