Creating advertisement for task sequence using script
Sigma posted a question in Deploying Operating Systems
Can someone help create mandatory advertisement to run a task sequence using a script? Environment is SCCM 2007. -
Is it possible to exclude computers based on an advertisement? I don't want to exclude by collection, though I am contemplating on creating a collection based on each advertisement I do and query an exclusion based on a master collection. For example. I have a Java Advertisement that I need to exclude 10 specific machines from 1,000 machines as the software will not work correctly with their applications. What would be the most streamlined approach in deploying the software to all the machines except those that can't use it. If I can exclude through the advertisement that would be promising (if this is available in 2012 let me know!) rather than making more work by creating a separate collection for each advertisement.

Is there a way to automatically purge advertisement status messages that are older than a set criteria? I basically want to purge all of the entries that are older than say 7 days.

I'm having an issue with trying to install software to my clients. When I go to "Install a program from the network" and click Install the program doesn't install and I almost immediately get an error message in the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\SMS\Mobile Client\Software Distribution\Execution History\System\TMC00009\.... The package returns -3 Exit Code Failure. I think this is a standard error that the program returns when it fails but I don't know why it is failing. I'm running SCCM 2007 on Server 2008 and the DP is running on the server. I have green OK's on every component. The Package and Advertisement status messages all show that everything is OK. DP was updated Successfully. I can PXE boot and run Task Sequences successfully. Here is an example of the execmgr.log with the error mesage. I've also looked at the LocationServices.log, the ContentTransferManager.log, the DataTransferService.log, and the CAS.log, and everything seems to say Success. The Site Boudary is set up with 10.0.0.0/8 and the client is on 10.0.12.60. What other kind of information do you need? Any ideas about what I should look at next? execmgr.doc

I'm having an issue imaging one of my desktops. This is a standard Windows 7 64 bit image and I genearally use it a couple times a week with no issue. I have one computer, however, where it just hangs indefinately on the installation of Office. This is the last advertisement shown for my Windows 7 image on this computer (2 days ago). Information Milestone VAN 5/2/2012 4:53:18 PM VAND04601 Software Distribution 10005 Program started for advertisement "VAN20181" ("VAN000EC" - "Office Professional 2010 (x32 Only)"). Command line: "\\abc.def.LOCAL\SMSPKGD$\VAN000EC\setup.exe" /adminfile custom.msp Working directory: \\abc.def.LOCAL\SMSPKGD$\VAN000EC\ User context: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM 1464 1296 And when I check the SMS Trace (C:\Program files (x86)\SMS_CCM|smspxe.log) I get multiple lines with this (but no error). Advertisement results: OfferId:VAN20181 OfferTime:02/08/2011 10:38:00 PackageID:VAN00138 BootImageID:VAN00001 PackageVer: PackagePath:\\VCVANSCCM1\SMSPXEIMAGES$\SMSPKG\VAN00001\ Mandatory:0 smspxe 4/24/2012 1:56:12 PM 3532 (0x0DCC)

Hello, Sometimes a working package in SCCM stops working and we have to recreate the package. When we do that , we have to copy the users from the old collection to the new collection and since we have a new package and new advertisement they get a popup that software is available. Is there a way to disable these popups for the people that already installed the software in that collection?

Hi, I've just got WOL working in our environment to the point where using sccm I can distribute a package, wake the machine up, install the package and shut the machine down again. However, if i create an advertisement and associate it with a collection with no machines in currently and then add machines to that collection it doesn't work. But if I create an advertisement with WOL ready and associate it with a collection with machines in it, it works great. Just wondering if i'm missing anything? Thanks

Hello, I am having trouble deploying software to new PC's. I had 30 PC's which I decommissioned, removed from AD then deleted from SCCM. I then created a csv with the names and Mac-addresses. The old names are to be used on the new PC's I import the csv and put them in my Windows 7 OSD Collection. PXE boot the PC's and the OSD runs fine. After the OSD finishes the PC's get put into collections based on its computer name. These collections have mandatory advertisement assigned. The mandatory assignment is never installed. I get as far as 'Accepted - No Further Status' I also have existing XP PC's which are added to my Windows 7 OSD collection. The OSD finishes on these fine and get the mandarory assignments installed. I cant fiqure it out. Any Ideas? Thanks KKontour Sorry Mods, supposed to post in Software Deployment.
