Flash Player with Windows 8.1

Hi all,

 

Sorry if this has been asked already. I am having an issue with Flash and Windows 8.1.

 

I work in a school and we have a few programs which use Flash Player to run (I presume they are SWF files), but they are ran from an .exe.

 

When I run them, it failed to load the player...

 

I have both the flash for IE (built in), and also the FireFox version as well, but it doesn't seem to want to use either of them.

 

Is there a setting or something I need to change? I have been through the Flash control panel from Windows Control Panel and cannot find anything there.

I have tried using the Adobe Flash Projector player for standalone, I have tried in compatibility mode as well and run as admin, still no luck.

 

Of course, it works on Windows 7 and XP... but not 8 . This is a bit of a road block at the moment as a fair bit of the school software has been made to use flash (Crap developers!!!! lol).

Well, the Flash Player is a browser plugin, so you need to start the SWF files with the browser. There is also a standalone Player from Adobe, called Shockwave Player.

Ahh, is that what Shockwave is?! I thought it was another plugin type! I will install shockwave and see how I get on...pretty noob mistake on my part if it is that!

Ok, bit late but I thought I would just provide an update. I have FINALLY got it to work.

Installed Shockwave and it made no difference, so I tried a few other things, installed .NET 3.5, 4.5, 4.5.2, no difference. Uninstalled Flash Plugin, reinstalled from 11, and upgraded bit by bit to 13 to see if it gave Windows something to play with in between updates, no luck.

 

So, I kept searching and came across this: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/flash-player-issues-windows-8.html

At the bottom of the page is a list of a couple of updates for IE in Windows 8.1.

 

This is an update for Windows 8.1 IE which does something to Flash Player as well. Installed that, Worked 100% fine right away.

 

Here are the updates. I thought I would make a quick list to save you searching the page for them (not hard to find, but still... Nice and easy this way for anyone else who may come across the same issue I had).
