Unable to PXE boot from remote DP

Recommended Posts

Good Afternoon all,

I've run into a small problem which has been annoying me for a few days. My remote DP has stopped working and I can no longer PXE boot for my OSD.

Here is the error from the SMSPXE logs on the DP:

I've looked around for this error and cannot find anything related to the problem I'm having. Apparently "80004005" errors are related to "access denied" so I've checked my SCCM AD accounts and nothing has changed.

To try and fix the problem I've removed the PXE and DP role, restarted the DP and then re-installed the role & PXE but this hasn't resolved the problem.

I've also checked the WDS service on my remote DP and this is running fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

Cheers

Dan

UPDATE:

Dug a little deeper and found out that my MP has decided to eat its own feet.

So did some searching on this error and found that I should visit:

http://<MP NAME>/sms_mp/.sms_aut?mplist

http://<MP NAME>/sms_mp/.sms_aut?mpcert

As expected, they both return:

So I've checked my permissions on the SQL box and my SCCM account is an admin on this. So I think I can rule out permissions.

I've tried uninstalling the MP role (rebooting) and re-installing it (rebooting) but alas this hasn't worked either.

still digging!!! :)

UPDATE:

Now I appear to be getting somewhere.

I think I now know the root cause. Way back when I first installed this SCCM server I also added the SUP role. At the end of last week I decided to uninstall the SUP role from my primary site and funnily enough that's when all the problems began.

After a quick Google I found something: http://heinrichandsccm.blogspot.co.uk/2013/05/http-error-50019-internal-server-error.html

HTTP Error 500.19 – Internal Server Error
The requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid.

This was also the case when trying to access http://localhost/ccm_client and application portals.

I had a look at the ApplicationHost.config file and noticed that suscomp.dll was installed by WSUS.

Resolution
1. Go to C:\windows\system32\inetsrv\config and locate the ApplicationHost.config file
2. Open it with notepad and look for the following lines below

scheme name=”xpress” doStaticCompression=”false” doDynamicCompression=”true”
dll=”C:\Windows\system32\inetsrv\suscomp.dll” staticCompressionLevel=”10″
dynamicCompressionLevel=”0″ />

3. The following command needs to be run to disable the suscomp.dll that was installed when the WSUS server role was installed, Im not 100% sure but from what I could see compression schemes are in every application pool and when WSUS x64 was installed the suscomp.dll chucks out the 500.19 error when its trying to load the x86 application pool. So from an elevated command prompt running the following.

%windir%\system32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe set config -section:system.webServer/httpCompression /-[name='xpress']

So off I went and made the changes as suggested. BINGO!

And DOUBLE BINGO!

Now to test the PXE boot from my remote DP...
