OliAdams Posted May 22, 2014 Report post Posted May 22, 2014 I tried to start the sccm console this morning and got the cannot connect to site error. This error appears whether I use the local console on the server or from a remote machine. It has worked for around 2 years. Me and one other guy have the only two accounts, it is a fairly simple setup just a single server. No one can connect using any account from any machine even locally on the server. The adminui.log section is posted below. Any help is appreciated. A bit more info below. wilbywilson Posted May 22, 2014 Report post Posted May 22, 2014 Shot in the dark: is this a virtual machine? I had an instance where I couldn't launch the console a while back, only to found out that the mounted virtual drive (where SCCM happened to be installed) had "disconnected" itself. We re-mounted the drive, and were then able to launch the SCCM console successfully.
anyweb Posted May 22, 2014 Report post Posted May 22, 2014 is the site server runnning out of disc space by any chance ? have you tried rebooting it ?
Rocket Man Posted May 23, 2014 Report post Posted May 23, 2014 Also: Maybe you have done this, but the very first thing to check when your console won't fire up is to verify that the actual SQL service is running, if this is stopped it will cause the console not to connect. If it is running then, here is a link with similar problems to yours, there is a troubleshooting part, the first step can be easily carried out as it just requires a WBEMTEST on the site server. OliAdams Posted May 23, 2014 Report post Posted May 23, 2014 I have checked all of these things. Wmi, dcom and sql report no errors. I can log into the sql database instance from the management studio from both the local and remote servers. I have checked disk space and there is currently over 20gb of space. I can post any other log files if required.
Peter van der Woude Posted May 23, 2014 Report post Posted May 23, 2014 Did you check your SMS provider and if it's running? If it is, you might want to restart it.
Rocket Man Posted May 23, 2014 Report post Posted May 23, 2014 Also check event viewer to see if it throws up anymore info. Check logs smsexec.log and sitecomp.log to see if there are any clues and make sure that all CM services are running also. OliAdams Posted May 23, 2014 Report post Posted May 23, 2014 How do I check if the sms provider is running? is this just a service or not? Sorry I have never had the chance to really dig into sccm as much as I would like to. I will check those logs and report back aswell, thank you. Rocket Man Posted May 24, 2014 Report post Posted May 24, 2014 It has worked for around 2 years. Quick one you state it has worked for 2 years and your site server is 2012 R2, this is not possible as R2 is not around this long. Did you upgrade to R2? If so you are running the R2 console and not the console pre-upgrade if it is a case that this site was upgraded?
