chubacca Posted June 17, 2014 Report post Posted June 17, 2014 Hey Everyone, I am looking at deploying a standalone instance of system center for a small business. System Center will be managing less than 1000 clients, however many of the clients will be remote. Does system center have an option to deploy/centrally manage these remote machines outside of my network? If so, do I need to move to a hiarrchy deployment or can I still use a standalone instance with some sort of edge server? Thanks in advance! chubacca
wilbywilson Posted June 18, 2014 Report post Posted June 18, 2014 Yes, it's possible to manage remote clients. However, you're going to need: 1) a PKI infrastructure (clients will communicate over HTTPS) 2) a firewall/TMG solution to allow remote access over the proper ports 3) the firewall/TMG can potentially be bypassed, if you install an internet management point in the DMZ Check out this post, to see what you're getting into. I recently went through this process, and it's not easy. A Standalone Primary instance will work: http://www.systemcenterdudes.com/?p=
