PaulWhite@pickens.k12 Posted June 19, 2014 Report post Posted June 19, 2014 I would love to know the answer to this as well, I have built many applications and if I have a msi for the program it really seems to be the best solution. I have also built many packages and they seem to work better if the program is a larger install for example I built office 2010, 2013 and all of the Autodesk products, Autocad, Revit and Inventor as they were all over 7gig in size as packages. But what really determines whether it is a package or application?
Peter33 Posted June 19, 2014 Report post Posted June 19, 2014 You can deploy every software as application and as package. It's up to you which model you prefer. The only limitation are are programs which will be used in the PE Phase of OSD, like BIOS updates. They have to be packages but without programs. You need to run them from a command line step. Windows 2 Go WIM files have to be packaes also.
Pelegit Posted June 19, 2014 Report post Posted June 19, 2014 sorry i dont understand u .. if i have skype.msi file i can to deploy the sykpe with "deploy package and Application" ?
Peter33 Posted June 19, 2014 Report post Posted June 19, 2014 Yes, of course you can. Packages are the "old" way to deploy Software, like you did in SCCM 2003/2007. The application model is the new way to deploy Software, giving you some nice benefits like detection rules and dependencies. It's still up to you which way you go. Personally i prefer the application model when ever possible.
