Applications vs packages

Is there a way to have applications install from the distribution point like you can with Packages? Is there also an equivalent to the assignment schedule that Packages have? I.E. repeat every X hours?

1. No, unless you create a deployment type without content and specify a installer on a network share as the command line. That way it will run the installer straight from the network location.
2. No. Also, it wouldn't add any functionality, because once a application is installed it will always be validated as installed.

Does that mean I have to have my cache size large enough to hold all of my applications?

 

Can I have batch files or exe files run as an application or only msi files?

The default is (I thought) 5Gb. Also, the client will clean up the content it doesn't need anymore.

 

Yes, you can have batch files or EXEs as applications.

Ok, but say I have it a the default of 5Gb. If I have two packages set to install on a computer, one that is 3.5Gb and one that is 3Gb. Will I have to increase the size to at least 6.5Gb or will it install one, clean up the files and then install the other?

 

Also, is there a way to to let users "reinstall" programs?

You won't have to increase the cache space. The content will stay at least 24 hours in the cache, after it;s been used and after that it will be cleaned when needed.

How do you mean? Like using avaliable applications?

Like with programs, users can "reinstall" if they have already been installed. Can you do the same with appications?
