SCCM 2012 and licensing best practices

Recommended Posts

Where can I find 'best practices' when it comes to licensed software?

Certain individuals within our organization like to specify which license needs to be applied to certain software installs (Adobe Acrobat, Visio, Project, etc.) The folks who delegate which license is applied to which software installation are in a separate group from those who are building, deploying and using SCCM.

What are my options when it comes to licensing software this way? Should we treat this as an opportunity to change the way in which we purchase software? Is there a way in SCCM to specify which license gets applied to a particular licensed software?

I'm looking for options at this point. I don't know which will be the path of least resistance. Industry standards would be my preference at this point.

thanks for your guidance,

--Jeff

There is not much ConfigMgr can do for you when it comes to applying specific licenses to specific users. The only thing you can do is deploy the software with a specifc license and target it to a specific collection. That would be a hell of a job if you have a different license per user/ device and that would be a standard method when you've got one license for all users/ devices.
