Config_Mgr_noob Posted April 22, 2015 Report post Posted April 22, 2015 Hi, I have been trying to delete superseded and expired updates from the SUP. I have already did a filter search for Expired updates, right-click, Edit Membership, and unselected the software update groups the expired updates are part of and re-ran a full synchronization . I also performed a Server Cleanup within the WSUS role but it still does not delete the expired or superseded updates from the WSUS container on the server. It takes a lot of server storage and we would like to alleviate some of that storage. Anyone here has any thoughts or recommendation to perform? Thanks in advance. Garrett804 Posted April 22, 2015 Report post Posted April 22, 2015 Run the cleanup utility on WSUS to clean-up the WSUS database.
Config_Mgr_noob Posted April 22, 2015 Report post Posted April 22, 2015 I already ran the Server Clean up within the WSUS role but did not free up any disc space.
Garrett804 Posted April 22, 2015 Report post Posted April 22, 2015 Did you run it leaving all the boxes checked?

Config_Mgr_noob Posted April 22, 2015 Report post Posted April 22, 2015 I just ran the following command (.\Clean-CMSoftwareUpdateGroup.ps1 -SiteServer CAS01 -SUGName "Critical and Security - Windows Clients 2014-10-18 00:29:04" -ShowProgress -RemoveContent -Verbose) from the below website but all it does is remove the software from the software update group. It does not free up any disc space on the server. http://www.scconfigmgr.com/2014/11/18/remove-expired-and-superseded-updates-from-a-software-update-group-with-powershell/
Peter van der Woude Posted April 22, 2015 Report post Posted April 22, 2015 The cleanup wizard should clean the WSUS folders of the update types that you selected. To really clean up disk space you might want to remove the expired and superseded updates from the deployment packages.
Config_Mgr_noob Posted April 22, 2015 Report post Posted April 22, 2015 I'll re-run the cleanup wizard again but did so 4 times already with no change on the volume drive. I also removed the expired and superseded updates from the deployment packages but no luck in freeing some space on the drive. Do I have to perform a re-sync in the All Software Updates? The WSUS folder is reaching 60GB of updates. Also, when I do a search under "All Software Updates" with Expired filter on, I still see some downloaded updates but no under deployment. I an getting conflicting info on my google searches some people are passionate about it being bottom up always and a few are top down always? Any real world clarification would be appreciated Ben
