psuit007 Posted June 16, 2015 Report post Posted June 16, 2015 I'm attempting to install hotfixes on machines with a Software Install Task Sequence. Initially I just put the line of hotfixes as individual Software Installs and tried to run it, but it fails with the message: "Task Sequence: Test has failed with the error code (0x80070643)..." I made sure the check box "Allow this program to be installed from the Install Software task sequence without being advertised." I then tried just one hotfix by itself but it failed wit the same error. Any ideas on what the problem could be, or where to troubleshoot it? Peter van der Woude Posted June 16, 2015 Report post Posted June 16, 2015 That error can mean a lot of things. You need to provide more information about the messages in the installation log file itself and about what you're actually installing.
psuit007 Posted June 16, 2015 Report post Posted June 16, 2015 I'm trying to install various hotfixes, but for a test I chose sccm2007ac-sp2-kb2509007-x86-enu.msp. When you say installation log, do you mean the log file created for the msp, or a SCCM log?
psuit007 Posted June 17, 2015 Report post Posted June 17, 2015 I think the other issue alluding me here is, do I need to install hotfixes in any particular order? There are 21 of them, and these are all SP2 hotfixes. Is there a good way to determine what supersedes other updates, or what order they should be installed in? Peter van der Woude Posted June 17, 2015 Report post Posted June 17, 2015 That's definitely a good idea.
psuit007 Posted June 24, 2015 Report post Posted June 24, 2015 Finally figured this out, in case anyone is curious. First off, apparently you can't install KB977384 in a task sequence, so with that I went back to using a package. First thing I did was manually install each hotfix to see what it updated, and ran into a few instances where the update was superseded, so using that I was able to come up with my order, which is below. 977203,982203,2278119,977384,978754,979199,2263826,2276865,2309968,2444668,2481567,2509007,2516517,2641584,2659258,2724939,2750782,2772081,2815223,2823071,2869381 From there just created a script to install the hotfixes.
