Issue with Pushing out IE 11

I've been trying to push out IE 11 for the last couple of days to a machine that was just imaged with Windows 7 x64, but when I remote into this client machine and click on the IE icon IE8 will launch. When I look at the Control Panel/Programs & Features/View installed updates I don't see IE 11 installed.

 

Here's what version SCCM is currently on:

I've downloaded and installed/configured the IEAK 11 Administration Kit

 

I've downloaded and extracted the IE11 updates per the instructions.

 

I've added all the cab files into the Custom Components per the instructions.

 

Made sure that all of these KB's are set to "Install before IE" per the instructions.

 

Then made sure that it was a "Completely Silent Installation" and "No restart" per the instructions

 

Then choose all the defaults, which then packaged IE 11 into the folder I told it to save that information. When you open the destination folder you will see the IE11 package. One of them is an app and other one is windows installer package (.msi).

 

I then moved the IE11 folder over to the SCCM server, and then created a new application for IE11 in SCCM. Then I created a new IE11 collection in SCCM. The Content Distribution is showing all green for IE (Successfully distributed content).

 

The Software Center on the test client machine shows that IE11 has been installed

I'm not sure why it's not installing, when the log file above says its installed correctly.

Could be your detection method that you configured considering it's stating that it is installed.

Make sure that the detection rule you use differs between ie8 and ie11, maybe try custom detection method as opposed msi product code.

 

BTW your deployed system has been rebooted after installation of application? The command line used above should reboot as a norestart command is not in the command but just to make sure.

I actually redid the IEAK on a different computer, this time at the end of the IEAK setup, I selected after the install of IE to have the computer restart, and the computer is still showing that IE8 is installed and not IE11. I then moved the installer folder and files over to my SCCM server on the E drive. Then created an old school package and device collection, put the laptop test computer into that test collection and here's the exexmgr log files:

that is strange...no errors...must be a problem with the ieak then.

Can you just for testing install ie9 or 10 manually on system and then re-advertise the ie11 application again and see if it installs.

You can also create an application from the .exe also, but you will need to fill in the extra stuff like detection method, install params etc... this will probably work better, and looking at the blog link you posted in your initial post it seems a lot of users are having the same issue as your self.

I created an IEAK 11 for Internet Explorer 11 with the instruction on this link but the only change I made is the to prompt for a reboot.

Basically, I want my deployment to prompt or ask a reboot at the end of the installation.

What's happening is the push gets installed completely silent. You'll only find out after you reboot your computer manually.

 

What would be the best control of reboot prompt on IEAK or The deployment in SCCM?

I went through that same blog and never got it to work either. Had MS on the phone with me for 5 hours and they couldn't even tell me why it was failing. Then they sent me this link:

Created the 2 packages and then the TS. Deployed it to a small collection of computers and it worked unbelievably well! Total joy right? No. Deployed it again to another small collection and it worked on about half the machines and then didn't work on any collection I deployed to after that. It would install the prereqs, but not IE11. I've put several hundred hours in to trying to get this to work and it won't. I could have probably had our 1000 machine upgraded manually by now. Bad news is that nobody ever seem to be able to help with this stuff....not even MS themselves!!!
