MDT 2013 task - a bit confused - Image type & OS Disk

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I've just started using SCCM 2012, primarily for patching. Since I have that part up and running successfully, I figured why not migrate my image/OS management to SCCM as well. Most of the process has gone well, but the last few bits sent me home with a headache for several days...

I've installed MDT 2013 Update 1 I believe (the last version available for download), and created a task sequence with as litle non-standard configuration as possible, so I could gain a better understanding of how the task sequence process works. I'm stumped at the image selection menu. The image indicates that it is Windows 7 x86 version. I would have sworn the image I captured (built manually on a separate machine) was x64...I haven't used x86 architecture in some time...is the name indicated in the task sequence simply a label, or is there some problem?

Next is the volume to install the OS to. I've been through several support articles indicating that D: would be the install destination if you used the default install.wim image. In my list of operating system images in SCCM, I see the image I captured from my reference machine as the only available system, with the architecture listed as 64-bit. My reference image did include a recovery partition, FYI, just in case that may be adding to the current problems. I've tried the following (in addition to many other support aritcle solutions):

I've also tried the option to disable preservation of the drive letter. Or maybe I need to enable it, I've read that works for some...admittedly confused...
