Arguments to separate servers management from desktops management

Question

Hello,

We already have an SCCM 2007R2 server deployed on our infrastructure which manage only desktop clients, we need to add servers management.

The teams which manage servers and desktops are different, that's why we want to separate the servers from desktops management.

The problem is that we need some arguments to deploy a new SCCM 2007R2 installation for servers management.

Have you got some arguments for us to separate the management of the servers from desktops clients ?

We have some ideas as follow :

- Hardware and software inventories are frequently used on desktop clients, we don't need this feature on servers side. Besides it requires lots of resources

- As options apply on the whole site targets (desktop clients and servers), it becomes an annoying situation to manage. Moreover, the modification of one option is done for all the site targets (desktop cleitns and servers) which can cause some problems.

Any idea is welcome.

Thanks in advance,

Chambess.

use collection based on queries

for example, to have a collection which only shows your Windows Server 2008 X64 based machines the query would be like so

select SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceID,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceType,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Name,SMS_R_SYSTEM.SMSUniqueIdentifier,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Client from SMS_R_System inner join SMS_G_System_COMPUTER_SYSTEM on SMS_G_System_COMPUTER_SYSTEM.ResourceId = SMS_R_System.ResourceId where SMS_R_System.OperatingSystemNameandVersion like "%Server 6.0%" and SMS_G_System_COMPUTER_SYSTEM.SystemType = "x64-based PC"

you can then manage the computers picked up in these collections and advertise software to those collections or windows updates, or more
