awalpole Posted February 3, 2016 Report post Posted February 3, 2016 Hello all I need a little advsie please. I need to move our current SCCM 2012 R2 SP1 ,CU2 From - Windows Server 2008 R2 to a new home on Windows Server 2012 R2 Our sql database is on a diffrent server. Its a single site with only one DP Whats the best method to move it? We are also useing MDT 2013 & Windows ADK 8.1 The big plan is to then upgrade to SCCM 1115 to support windows 10 fully. I've alredy tried a trail run useing the backup and restore wizard!! But this did not go well
GarthMJ Posted February 3, 2016 Report post Posted February 3, 2016 Backup and restore is really your only option. Unless you want to built net new then you can troffer settings from one site to another but all of you client will need to be reinstalled. At this point I would go with CM1511.

awalpole Posted February 3, 2016 Report post Posted February 3, 2016 can I upgrade to v1511 even if im running WinServer 2k8R2?The only part that would not work is Windows 10 Servicing as this require WSUS4.0, which comes with Windows Server 2012+. Would Migration be better than a backup and restore ? Would the first step be installing a fresh version of 1511 on a WinServer 2012r2 ? my backup a restore failed as my task sequace would no longer install applications. could have been a iis issue as i could not get the application catalog working in the web browser. I also had a problem with my driver packages after the restore. I had to restore the old 2008 vm and restore the sql database to get eveything back to normal. im looking for easest method to move to server 2012 and sccm 1115

We only have 1500 clients, its only a small boarding school. do you think a migration would be better ?
awalpole Posted February 3, 2016 Report post Posted February 3, 2016 Are there any good guides for migration?
GarthMJ Posted February 3, 2016 Report post Posted February 3, 2016 The easiest way to is to. On a new server/VM install Windows 2012, SQL 2014, WSUS, CM1511. Migrate any existing packages from your old CM12 server. Migrate your client to the new server. Decommission the old CM12 server. Done

ZeZe Posted February 4, 2016 Report post Posted February 4, 2016 Question: during the migration how are the clients handle? Can do we migrate the agents to a new environment? What if the agent it's a old version?
