Unable to Install Task Sequences via Software Center

Recommended Posts

Hi,

So i have recently upgrade to 1511, i believe since then I'm unable to install Task Sequences via Software Center.

When i select a TS, for example the TS used to build the machine Software Center displays Downloading then Installing for about 2 minutes, then installed.

During this process there are no smsts logs created, but the TSAgent log does display this error message at the end.

So far i have created all new TS's, redistributed the Boot image and OS image, checked all the applications can install without being deployed and updated MDT to 2013 update 1.

The task sequences do work when booting from PXE.

Any Advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Craig.

Hi,

Are you seeing this one more than one computer or is it many? the 1511 client had a tendency to be corrupt so a CCMrepair.exe could solve it for you. depending on the amount of clients.

Hi Jorgen,

Thanks for the response, I'm seeing this everywhere. Even with freshly built PC's. The client seems to do everything else correctly. It reports back as expected, it will install any new updates or software, just won't install Task Sequences. Despite the fact the Task Sequences work via PXE.

Thanks,

Craig.

if you update machine policy a few times does it work ? what does execmgr.log reveal ?

the error translates to

There is no program currently running.

Hi

So i ran the machine policy 3 times before attempting to run a TS, afterwards the same thing happened. I've took a screenshot of the execmgr.log, seems to imply the TS ran successfully. I can post more of it if needed.

Thanks again.

Can you confirm if this happens on clients running a different OS?

For instance does the same happen on a Win10 client?

Rich

I've tried it with Windows 10, i had to apply KB3143760 but after this it worked. So it seems it's isolated to Windows 7

Interesting.

I know I've suggested this previously elsewhere but not sure you did it.. I'd suggest creating a brand new Windows 7 machine completely separate from your current image, fully update it, then manually install the SCCM client and go through the process of running the Task Sequence.

I suspect this may be something to do with either how your Windows 7 image was captured (not properly cleaned up to give its own identity), or something installed in your Windows 7 image.

Well just to give you more of an idea. So i tried it on a windows 10 machine as you know and it worked. This then installed Windows 7 because that's the TS i selected. I then tried reinstalling the same TS and that worked too. So i don't understand why it can be the imagine when it worked this time when starting from Windows 10, but doesn't work with machines that started on that TS.

Ok, lets cross a few scenarios off, try the following;

1) Rebuild a current Win7 machine which is currently not working via Software Center.. Do this via PXE which is working.. shortly after it completes, can you run the TS again from Software Center?

2) Rebuild a current Win7 machine which is currently not working via Software Center.. Do this via PXE which is working.. Once it completes, ensure its fully up to date (wsus) and let your standard required apps install as normal. Then, can you run the TS again from Software Center?

If Scenario 1 works then you know your image is OK and nothing inside it from when it was captured is causing the issue.

If Scenario 2 works then you know your image is OK, WSUS is installing anything which is breaking it, and neither are your applications.

If Scenario 1 works but 2 doesn't, well then you can point the finger towards updates or applications.

From what you've said above, I would except Scenario 1 to work.

Also, during your Task Sequence, can you confirm the command line you are using to install the SCCM client?
