What happens when you let DBA's have control of your SCCM dbs

Recommended Posts

HI All

Looking for some advice here, we (the royal we) are trying to upgrade our SCCM 2012 R2 servers so they use SQL 2014 database instances. Annoyingly for me and some other members of my team our company policy denotes that all SQL Db's be managed solely by our DBA's.

They tried to upgrade our SQL 2008 r2 db's to 2014, but no by doing an in place upgrade but by creating a new sql server instance on the same Windows server. So now we have a sql 2008 r2 instance and a 2014 instance running on the each of our sccm sql servers (this is with a CAS and 2 Primary Site Servers, each with a seperate server for the database, don't ask why i had nothing to do with the initila config and heirachy.)

We are now seeing errors on the PSS DB's accessing the CAS DB relating to certificates. If the DBA's have setup the domain service accounts to run sql but have not imported the certificates to the accounts personal certificate store, would this cause this problem?

Currently we have the 2 PSS server databses running both SQL instance, any idea what problems this could cause SCCM if any?

I have no idea why they didn't do an in place upgrade but i am guessing the DBA's were worried it might cause problems!

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

regards

Keith
