WSUS/SCCM 2012 R2 - Cannot change Update Files setting to 'do not store update files locally'

Question

Hi all

I am new to this forum. I would like to say thank you to everyone that has taken time to provide tutorials and fixes and this has saved me a lot of time!

I have run into an issue with WSUS. In the WSUS Options, every time I change the Update Files setting to ‘Do not store update files locally; computers install from Microsoft Update’ it changes to ‘Store update files locally on the server’ automatically after about 20 minutes. I have tried changing it several times and it keeps reverting back! I am running Update Services Version: 6.3.9600.16384. Please help someone!

Thank you in advance!

Microsoft updates were available to servers and desktops without being approved and downloaded.

This is not possible without an ADR. Which IMO is a bad idea for anything but Virus defs.

You know that you can't share WSUS with CM, CM will control any WSUS setup and it will cause problems if WSUS is used with CM.

Okay that makes a sense. So when I approve updates through the WSUS client, once they have been downloaded will client PC's be presented with those updates?

It is NOT supported and BAD things will happen if you approve SU in WSUS. If you need to use WSUS for non-CM client you need a second WSUS server.
