Imported Computers Site Assignment...

Question

Hi guys,

I'm going through the OS deployment guides, and I have all my task sequences, packages, boot images etc created and distributed. I have a Central site with several Primary Child sites. I've created everything using the Central site console, and sent them to a Distribution Point on one of the Primary Child sites.

The problem I'm having is that when I boot off my media, the Task Sequence cannot run anything because everything is on the Primary Child's Distribution Point and the Computer Association I've made as part of the guide automatically defaulted to a site assignment to the Central site, which naturally doesn't have anything to distribute.

I'm guessing I can connect to the Primary Child's database and put in the Computer Association from there, but that's awkward, time consuming and very messy, not to mention the headache it just caused me due to replication.

Any ideas?

you could try using the tsenv2 tool from 1e, you can use that to set variables including the site code you are mentioning

within the ts itself, please test it and you'll see what i mean, it's a free tool, just fire up winpe, and execute it from the command prompt

After forcing a Computer Association through by adding it via the Primary Child's console, I noticed that after deploying my OS, the client was assigned to my Central site and not the Primary Child that it deployed from. I can't see how that makes sense - the target system was associated and assigned to the Primary Child, all the data came from the Primary Child, yet the final site assignment is Central. That goes against all my AD and network discovery and boundaries!

I know the TSEnv2 tool is going to be mentioned again, but is that really the solution? Can I not create OS images and Deployments, Task Sequences etc. centrally without target systems defaulting to the Central site as their Management point? A disappointing side effect of OSD if that's the case. :(
