PXE boot not working

Hi,

 

I am following the guide on how to deploy Widnows XP using SCCM 2007. I am very impressed with the guide and it's ease to follow.

 

I am stuck on trying to get my client workstation to PXE boot. When the client machine boots it sits on a DHCP screen and tries to get the PXE boot address (which I guess should be that of the SCCM server).

 

My dhcp server and sccm are separate servers, I think I need to configure DHCP option 60 on my dhcp server. I have had a look for option 60 but cannot find it.

 

I am using a vmware virtual machine as the client and I have entered it's mac address and GUID number into SCCM as described in the deployment guide.

 

Can someone please explain what might be required to get it to working?

If you have your DHCP on a different server you don't need to do any of the DHCP options. If your PXE server is in a different subnet than your vm, you need to have your network people add an IP Helper address on your router.

My VM, DHCP Server and SCCM server are all in the same subnet. If I dont need to setup anything on the DHCP server then why is my VM not finding the SCCM server when starting?

For giggles have you disabled the firewall on your PXE server and then tried. Just to eliminate ports as an issue?

 

Edited to add: also have you tried on multiple clients, to rule out a problem with that clients nic? Also try BIOS updates on the clients.
