SCCM Client Installation Fails: Network Access Account

Question

Several dozens machines on our network have been reimaged and no longer have the SCCM client installed. When SCCM attempts to reinstall the clients on the newly imaged machines after discovery, the following message appears in the ccm.log

SMS Client Configuration Manager cannot connect to the machine "2003-05". The operating system reported error 5: Access is denied.

Possible cause: The client is not accessible.

Solution: Verify that the client is connected to the network and that the SMS Service account or (if specified) the SMS Client Remote Installation account has the required privileges, as specified in the SMS documentation.

Possible cause: A remote client installation account was not specified in the SMS Admin console, the account is not valid, is disabled, or has an expired password.

Solution: Ensure one or more valid and active remote client installation accounts are specified in the SMS Admin console, that the account names and passwords are correct, and that the account has the required administrator rights on the target machines.

The client install should proceed with the network access account correct? This has not changed since our initial installation of SCCM 07; the account being used is the domain admin.

have you verified that the network access account works (perhaps locked ?)

We are using the domain administrator account for the network access account, so permissions should not be an issue. Specifically the ccm.log file on the site server reports that the network access account cannot access the administrative share on the target machines?
