Upgrading secondary servers after SP2

Recommended Posts

I just upgraded my primary to SP2 and I need to upgrade all my secondary servers to sp2 too. I tried with the console but after 2 hours I can see nothing has changed onto that server. Still version 6221. It installed all necessary files on the server but the install is somehow freezed. :huh:

The last line in ConfigMgrSetup.log is "<09-07-2010 04:46:57> SMS Shutdown: Calling StopServices()"

So I think I will manually upgrade the server myself. So I have 2 options here;

  •
  • Upgrade an existing Configuration Manager or SMS 2003 Installation

or

  •
  • Install or upgrade an administrator console

All my secondary sites do OSD so PXE/WDS is enabled

Which option can I take?

first option, but why do this when you can troubleshoot the failure, do you logs reveal anything else ?

My logs aren't revealing anything. But for that server I figured it out by rebooting the server it just pursuit the setup. So now that secondary is .6487.

Yesterday evening (6PM) I launched 5 upgrades through the console. This morning 3 of them were upgraded. 2 of them are still on 'Upgrade'. I looked in the logfile

So for me the logs are clear, it's version 4.00.6487.2000 but when I do a refresh in the admin console it's still upgrading. Also can I install KB978021 & KB982399 on my secondary servers?

Do I also have to upgrade WAIK 1.0 to WAIK 2.0 on every secondary point?

When I try to connect to the compononent manager on that server it says 'Error communicating with component'
