USMT 4.0 Hardlink with SCCM R2

Question

Hi All,

I am a newbie in the SCCM domain.

I am trying to intgreate USMT 4.0 with SCCM R2.

Could you please guide me in doing this(step by step process for the same)?

My aim is to upgrade the win xp to win-7 without cleaning up the users specific applciations, files and settings.Once users have win-7 on their machine they should be able to see their settings as per win-xp machines.

Also do we get any additional opting in task sequence under OSD after installing USMT 4.0(WAIK)?

By googling what i have undestood is that we need to create 3 task sequence variable but i am not getting how to backup/restore works.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Sumi

First of, keep in mind that you need SP2 to deploy Windows 7.

Second, the Hardlink Migration which you describe (with using 3 variables) is described on my blog: http://www.petervanderwoude.nl/post/ConfigMgr-2007-USMT-40-and-using-Hard-Links.aspx

There is also an extended version (similar to Niall's version): http://www.petervanderwoude.nl/post/Capture-User-Files-and-Settings-Offline-(WinPE)-or-Online-(FullOS)-with-ConfigMgr-2007.aspx

Hi All,

Thanks for your help on this so far.

When I am running the task sequence as suggested(http://blogs.technet.com/b/cpnfiguratiomgr/archive/2010/06/30/how...).

I am get an error message saying that "windows couldnt parse or process the unattend answer file for pass(specalize). The setting specified in the answer file cant be applied. The error was detected while processing settings for component[microsoft-windows-shell-setup] "

Any help on this is really appreciated.

Sumi
