Prestaging with MDT 2010U1

Hi all,

is it possible to finalize a wim image that is bring on the computer by an OEM Manufacturer ?

My idea is to boot a prestaged pc against pxe and then do all needed things like join domain, set computername,... with a MDT task sequence.

Is it possible ?

i believe it's possible with mdt 2010 but there are issues, far better to utilise sccm 2007 sp2 R3 for doing this,

are you using SCCM ?

No i´m not using sccm in this customer environment. There are only 300 PC´s to roll out...but i´ve to bring down the rollout time.

ConfigMgr R3 prestaged media is the recommended method. MDT has a pre/post OEM task sequence, however even the MDT guys recommend that you use R3 prestaged media as it works the correct way.

You can use any task sequence you want to finalize the machine(s) provided it has the appropriate configuration as show in the guide i linked.

I think i will use R3 Prestaged Media. Today i tested it in my lab and it worked finde.
