Mr.G Posted January 13, 2011 Report post Posted January 13, 2011 Hi. I'm new to the WIndows-Noob.com Forums. Name is Gavin, I manage a small 475 host network with around 9 Servers. One of which is SCCM 2007. I installed SCCM 2007 R3 as per the instructions found on this very forum (extremely handy step by step walkthrough, so thanks for those whoever wrote them). I then setup and configured what was needed for the clients to carry on with the automated task of installing SCCM client. Now most of my clients bar 2% have installed and are perfect. The issue I have is that they remain on .2000 not .2157 (hope thats the right version lol) as they should be, meaning no power management available. I've done everything I can think of to get them up to date but its not working. I'd really appreciate any help anyone can provide me. I am a little bit of a noob when it comes to SCCM so please go easy on me. It's been a very steep learning curve and with a 1100 user ADS/Exchange system here sometimes finding the required time for SCCM is hard. I have bought a ISBN 978-0-470-17367-1 which is R2 related, but i've done most of what it says in there, it is very vague in certain areas. I can obtain any logs from any machines or from Servers, post up screen shots if need be. I'd really like to get this sorted as our PC's are being left on overnight costing us ££££!!! Many Many thanks....in advance! Mr.G
Peter van der Woude Posted January 13, 2011 Report post Posted January 13, 2011 Did you also deploy the client hotfix KB977384?
Mr.G Posted January 14, 2011 Report post Posted January 14, 2011 Yes I installed that onto the Server after installing R3. I'm beginning to think I've done something wrong here. The Console is fine, reporting that Pc's are there, installed, assigned etc. However when I look at each client version in control panel, configuration manager the version is displayed as .2000. I'm at my wits end now. Having tried most things with no resolution!! Thanks G
anyweb Posted January 14, 2011 Report post Posted January 14, 2011 you need the clients patched as well, if they are not, then the client version will be reported at the SP2 level... see below:- Configuration Manager 2007 R3 System Requirements Primary and secondary site servers in the hierarchy, remote Configuration Manager consoles, and remote providers must install the update described in Article 977384 (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=199896) at the Microsoft Support site before you install Configuration Manager 2007 R3. Other than the hotfix, Configuration Manager 2007 R3 does not introduce significant changes to supported site system and client requirements from those required for Configuration Manager 2007 R2 and Configuration Manager 2007 SP2. Configuration Manager 2007 R3 Client System Requirements To use power management in Configuration Manager 2007 R3, you must first install the update described in Article 977384 (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=199896) at the Microsoft Support site to client computers in your organization. Other than the hotfix, the Configuration Manager 2007 R3 client requirements and supported operating systems are the same as the Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 client requirements. For more information about client requirements, see Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 Supported Configurations. to automatically add the hotfix required you can use this method http://blogs.technet.com/b/deploymentguys/archive/2010/08/13/automatically-populate-the-patch-property-for-the-configmgr-2007-client-installation.aspx or use the Patch property as described here, here and here sample patch property in a ts below:-
Mr.G Posted January 14, 2011 Report post Posted January 14, 2011 Thanks for the reply, very helpful. I have created the task sequence and added correct configuration but I'm struggling with the Installation properties parameters. Can Anyone help me? This is more than likely the last step in the process, hoping I can get it resolved soon. Thanks again for all the help, I don't feel so isolated G
Mr.G Posted January 14, 2011 Report post Posted January 14, 2011 I have now managed to get the application to distribute via advertised task sequence. Showing as installed on 100+ clients. However when I view the client version using the SCCM console its yet again still the .2000 version. Argggg G

anyweb Posted January 14, 2011 Report post Posted January 14, 2011 so you have pushed the client with the hotfix again ? or what have you done exactly ? where are you checking for the version of the client ?
Mr.G Posted January 14, 2011 Report post Posted January 14, 2011 Anyweb...thanks for the reply. 1. Created task sequence with the following parameters : PATCH="%_SMSTSMDataPath%\OSD\<PCS00009>\i386\hotfix\KB977384\SCCM2007AC-SP2-KB977384-x86.msp 2. Advertised Task Sequence 3. Checked Advertisement status in SCCM Console which reports Received 83, Started 86, Program Success 86. 4 Checked logs for valid install Hostname i.e R1-1 which shows as : "The task sequence execution engine successfully completed a task sequence." & also "The task sequence manager successfully completed execution of the task sequence." under logs. 5. Remote Desktop onto R1-1 and checked Configuration Manager Version number which shows as .2000 6. Checked SCCM Console R1-1 Properties and verified version of .2000 there also. Client Push installation properties reads: SMSSITECODE=PCS SMSCACHESIZE=8000 Software update point client installation is not enabled as when i publish the most recent version of the client it states .2000 as the version. That is an outline of what I've done today. Thanks for your time.. G
