Unable to distribute software

Question

Hello everyone,

This is my first post on this very helpful site and I am a total newbie to any system configuration manager applications.

Here is my lab: I have downloaded the virtual pc ConfigMgr R2 VHD from Microsoft, it has a server 2003,sql 2008 and SCCM 2007 r2 pre-configured. The virtual lab contains the configmgr server and another Windows XP pro, both of them are running on VMWare workstation.

The XP pro(PC01) has been added to the domain that is running on Configmgr(server 2003), the name of the domain is systemcenter.com.

I have followed the three parts guide to configured the SCCM 2007 and finally I managed to have client agent installed on PC01.

The next step is to distribute a firefox onto PC01, again I did step by step according to the guide "how can I deploy an application in SCCM 2007 SP1".

The result is ...well there is no result, no error message, no responds, nothing is installed on PC01.

Is this because I am using the trail version of SCCM 2007 R2? I would love to attach my event log, but...have no idea which log is the relevant one.

There is something that I have noticed, the configuration manager on my client agent seems a bit different from the guide, on the action tab several items are missing. Pls see attachment.

I really wish to complete the testing lab. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Ralph

Hi Ralph and Welcome !

Few things to check

1) SCCM Boundaries check boundaries are added correctly or not ?

2) Diabled the firewall

3)What does the clientlocation.log and locationservices.log says on ur client logs (c:\windows\system32\ccm\logs)

Here is the check list to follow in SCCM client troubleshooting http://eskonr.com/2010/11/smssccm-client-installation-troubleshooting-check-list/

Hi Eswar, thanks for the reply.

1)Boundaries setting is configured the same as the guide.

2)firewall on XP system has been disabled.

3)I deleted the computer from collection, in fact I rebuild the XP pro , joined it to the domain, discovered it in the SCCM, managed to push the client, but the result is the same.

Under action tab in the configuration manager properties, there are only two actions. According to your blog, there should be more. Also, the configmgr connection type under general tab says unknown.

My boundaries setting has the connection type set as "fast". It seems that before I move on to trouble shoot the software distribution issue, I must be sure the client is healthy installed which it doesn't seem to be at the moment.

also check your client version matches the configmgr version, you mentioned sccm 2007 sp2 but in the screenshot it looks like the version of your client isSCCM 2007 sp1

The full name of the SCCM that I am using is "Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2 VHD", it is a virtual pc that has server 2003,sql 2008 and SCCM 2007 sp1 reconfigured.

do you see any error messages under site system status with any of the component mamager?

check the name resolution on the client side ?

do you see any attributes published under system management container folder in AD ?

what does it gives when you disover the side code on the client manually ?
