Link SCCM 2012 beta 2 with Exchange

Recommended Posts

Never installed SCCM before, but wanted to experiment with the new capability in 2012 to control non-Windows mobile devices via its link with Exchange ActiveSync.

I have a test Exchange server set up that is working great (specifically, it's the Hyper-V Exchange Server 2010 demo image that Microsoft provides).

I've managed to successfully install SCCM 2012 beta 2 on a separate Windows Server 2008 R2 test system joined to the test domain. I pointed the SCCM Exchange Connector to my Exchange server, and tried registering some devices via ActiveSync to the Exchange server, but the devices do not show in the SCCM inventory.

I admittedly did not follow all of the configuration steps listed in the guide on this site, because they seemed to be focused on software distribution, and all I really want to look at is the Exchange linkage.

I am a total noob with SCCM, so any pointers would be appreciated. I can go through the complete configuration process described in the guide if necessary, but would like to make sure it is necessary for the Exchange linkage. I'm also unfamiliar with SQL Server, so it's also possible I did something wrong in installing and configuring that on my SCCM test system.

Any pointers/suggestions appreciated.

Thanks,

David

Hey guys,

Not sure if you have gotten this sussed as yet, but I can confirm that I have successfully configured the Beta 2 release connecting with my Exchange environment. Some things to note if you're not already aware...

1. You must be connecting with an Exchange 2010 Client Access Server (CAS). I am not sure whether the whole Exchange implementation is required to be at 2010 level.

2. You must provide the FQDN of the Exchange CAS. I also populated the 'Advanced' area of the connection for good measure, but am not sure whether that is required.

3. You must use an account that has credentials for connecting to the Exchange environment. I would think that the Exchange View Only Administrator role is probably sufficient as I'm thinking that SCCM only needs to be able to read information out of Exchange?? Can anyone verify that??

These are the steps I followed a couple of times, both with success. Without the SCCM client installed on the mobile device however, I think the only real functionality is being able to wipe the device.

Cheers,

adrian
