OSD Task Sequence not continuing after Setup Windows and ConfigMgr. Client not installed

I have a OSD task sequence that does install ConfigMgr and does not continue after the "Setup Windows and ConfigMgr" step.

 

Here is the task sequence:

 

Restart in Windows PE

Partition Disk 0 - (Disk 0, 100% format)

Apply Operating System - (I have tried both from source, and from captured image)

Apply Windows Settings

Apply Network Settings

Apply Driver Package

Setup Windows and ConfigMgr

.....

Multiple Post "Setup Windows and ConfigMgr" steps.......

 

When it gets to "Setup Windows and ConfigMgr" it goes through the motions, downloads the ConfigMgr package. Asks for a reboot. Once it reboots it says:

completing installation (At this point I cannot press F8 to get a command prompt)

setup will continue after restarting your computer

setup is preparing your computer for first use (Only 1sec)

checking video performance

Alt + Ctrl + Del screen

 

Once the workstation sits at the "Alt + Ctrl + Del screen" there are no logs at all for ConfigMgr install or Task sequences. The only log I can get is if I press F8 at the "Setup Windows and ConfigMgr" step and navigate to X:\Windows\Temp\SMSTSLog\smsts.log

 

Looking at the smsts.log there is an interesting entry "The action (Setup windows and ConfigMgr) requested a retry" On my other workstations I do not have this entry.

 

Setup

 

SCCM SP2 R3 installed on Windows 2008 R2

WinPE x86 - Unknown systems (Brings up a UnknownSystem.hta so I can add the workstation to SCCM then continue with task sequence)

Installing Windows 7 x64 (I have tried both from source, and from captured image)

Model Dell Optiplex 790

 

The weird thing is I have 2 exact same models. 1 works, the other doesnt. I am not sure where to go from here, or what else I can try.

I'll try to take a stab at this (hopefully someone else chimes in)...

 

You say that one workstation works, but the other doesn't? Is that correct? If so, is the BIOS up to date on the one that's not working (I've seen some odd things get fixed by updating the BIOS)? And have you checked the hard disk for errors? If the physical machine is fine, are you imaging them the exact same way? You could try deleting the AD and SCCM objects for both and imaging them again - that way you know your processes are working to create new objects.

 

And do you get an error message returned to SCCM? Listed in the advertisement status for the task sequence's advertisement?

Check the ccmsetup log files, as it sounds like an issue with the client installation.
