Installing XPDM Drivers during the TS

Question

I am trying to add old XP display drivers to a task sequence deploying Windows 7. We have our TS working almost perfect deploying Win7 to almost all of our makes/models. However we have some old machines that have Intel 845g/865g chipsets that do not have a Windows 7 video driver provided for them. Intel recommends using their XPDM drivers on Vista/7.

If I manually install or point Windows 7 to the driver after OSD it installs fine, without any prompting, however I cannot get it to install during the TS. It just ignores the Driver. Any suggestions on what to check, or how to force it to look at non WIn7 drivers?

Check your smsts.log to make sure that the driver is getting copied down to the system.

If it's getting copied down, then check the %WINDIR%\inf\setupapi.dev.log file to debug driver installation. The MSDN documentation for the Windows Driver Development Kit (DDK) will be helpful in debugging this issue. You may have to sift through the INF files to figure out why it's not applying properly.

Also, is the driver digitally signed? Windows 7 has much more stringent requirements for driver signing than XP did.

Hope this helps.
