WDS Network issues with VMware Player

Question

Spent a couple of days with WDS, 20 websites (including this informative one), and could not figure out the problem why an install on a second VM would not work from the WDS VM server. (This is using VMware Player).

It would get through to the install.wim stage with the following error:

WdsClient: There was a problem initializing wds modetrans.gif?cver=1864.923%0d%0a

Both VMs are set to host, The Server 2008 VM issues the client the correct IP through its dhcp server when the client boots into PXE.

Through further investigation, the client VM has an IP outside the scope of the server when it gets to the install stage. The client is re- issued a new IP address from VMware DHCP service.

FIX: services.msc then turn off the VMware DHCP Service.
