How to install Cisco VPN Client for Windows 7 32bit using install software in a Task Sequence

Hello Everyone,

 

I am trying to create a Task Sequence that will install Windows 7 32bit, the drivers and all of the software that we use.

 

So far everything is good till I add the Cisco VPN Client package to the Task Sequence.

 

All the other software installs fine, but when it gets to the VPN package it fails with an error: 0x80004005.

 

If I take out the VPN package the Task Sequence completes just fine.

I am using a bat file to run the install:

 

@echo off

echo Making local installation source...

mkdir c:\install\vpn

xcopy /s /e /q /y * c:\install\vpn\

echo runnning install... please wait

start /wait msiexec /i c:\install\vpn\vpnclient_setup.msi REBOOT=Supress /q

 

 

It works fine when I run it in the command prompt from a mapped network drive.

 

 

In the package, it runs the bat file.

 

I got it running Hidden

Program can run: Whether or not a user is logged on

Run with administrative rights

Requires a drive letter

Suppress program notifications

Allow this program to be installed from the Install Software task sequence without being advertised.

 

 

Not sure why it's not working.

I changed the batch file to look like this:

 

@echo off

mkdir c:\install\vpn

xcopy %~dp0* c:\install\vpn\ /s /e /q /y

echo runnning install... please wait

start /wait msiexec /i c:\install\vpn\vpnclient_setup.msi REBOOT=Supress /q

 

Now when I run it on the computer from the command line to test it, it creates the "install\vpn" folders but doesn't copy over the files.

 

Did i created the bat wrong?

I took at look at this too (I sit next to emathews) The Unspecified error does not help too much. I took a look at the SMSTS log (see attached. It looks like SCCM cannot release the source directory, which seems odd as all our packages are int he same share and they install fine.

Did anyone ever figure this out. I actually can get the Cisco VPN client to install during an OSD Deployment using a TS, however the problem I ran into is that after the OSD is finished my configuration manager client site mode shows "UNKNOWN". If i disable the VPN client TS configuration manager client site mode shows correct as "Mixed" mode.

I know this is quite old but in your bat file the line with the xcopy command doesnt specify the source to copy from. It should read something like this - xcopy \\server01\vpn\*.* /s /e /q /y c:\install\vpn . Also, instead of using a bat file you can create a Task Sequence using the "Run Command Line" options. One for each line in your bat.
