Maybe I'm being stupid but... I have still to come across a procedure for building Win7 PCs using SCCM 2012 (groovy task sequences etc) without first defining the machine in the console and using PXE or deploying to an already built machine. We're not planning on making PXE available in every building and I can see there will be times when I'll want to build bare metal in a location where PXE is not available. I come from an SMS 2003 / BDD 2007 setup where we didn't use PXE at all so forgive my not knowing this if it is something obvious...
