AdamF Posted January 25, 2012 Report post Posted January 25, 2012 For the purpose of testing/playing around with sccm 2012, does anybody know if the migration process destroys any of the data in my sccm 2007 environment? I want to build a test server, install the 2012 RC and run through the migration process, test deployment to a couple of clients etc.. but still be able to use my 2007 environment and complete the migration again when 2012 reaches RTM. Cheers Adam.
Peter van der Woude Posted January 25, 2012 Report post Posted January 25, 2012 The migration process, does not destroy any data in your SCCM 2007 environment... the only thing it does, is migrate data to your new environment... The only thing you should remember, with running them side-by-side, is that you don't get overlapping boundaries.
anyweb Posted January 25, 2012 Report post Posted January 25, 2012 i'll be covering migration soon in a new post, watch this space
AdamF Posted January 26, 2012 Report post Posted January 26, 2012 Thanks. I'll keep a look out for that... Could I..... run a very small boundary on 2012 RC that would also be included in the 2007 boundary without any issues or as the 2 environments need to use different sites codes, just run the same boundary without any issues? Peter van der Woude Posted January 26, 2012 Report post Posted January 26, 2012 Nope, because that's exactly why you could get problems.. At that moment clients find two Site that "say" that they want to manage the client and that is why and where the trouble starts... anyweb Posted January 27, 2012 Report post Posted January 27, 2012 i blogged about a side-by-side migration today, hope it helps ! http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?/topic/4926-using-sccm-2012-rc-in-a-lab-part-14-performing-a-side-by-side-migration-from-configuration-manager-2007/
Zahro Posted February 15, 2012 Report post Posted February 15, 2012 Hi, maybe this is a different topic. we don't have SCCM deployed yet but we decided to deploy SCCM 2012 RC2 in production. are we going to face issues to install\upgrade the RTM when released? Thanks for your help.
anyweb Posted February 15, 2012 Report post Posted February 15, 2012 yes you will have problems unless you are a Microsoft TAP customer, you should not install RC2 into production otherwise, it's not supported to upgrade it at all. So you'll have to install again from scratch when the final code is available (RTM).
