Zubof Posted May 18, 2012 Report post Posted May 18, 2012 I'm going to install new SCCM 2012 from "clear table" for approx. 3000 client computers and one domain at first. Then next year there is need to add second domain and approx. 2000 client desktops more. I'm familiar with SCCM 2007 but I could need some good advices for servers and setups... Central administration Site (CAS) is a big question mark for me. Is there any real need for it in this size of environment (2 different domain, 6000 clients)? What about server hardware.. I'm thinking to get new dedicated server with 16Gt RAM and 150gb (4x150, RAID10) for SQL/Primary site installed on same hardware. I believe there is enough performance and disk IO to run smoothly. Is it possible or recommended to install CAS for virtualized (VMWare) server, if it's recommended to install? Server configuration: Dedicated server - Primary site - SQL 2008 Std, SCCM 2012 Virtualized server - Central Administration Site - SCCM 2012 Thanks for advices and comments. Eswar Koneti Posted May 18, 2012 Report post Posted May 18, 2012 Central administration Site (CAS) is a big question mark for me. Is there any real need for it in this size of environment (2 different domain, 6000 clients)?-----Note that ,CAS cannot manage sccm client it just participate in SQL Database replication and reporting etc so you should look for Primary to manage clients. If you are planning to have multiple primary and go with only one primary (Primary can not report to another Primary only to Central) rest of all secondary and clients are lessthan 100K ,you do not need CAS (as I know). Refer this for more info http://wmug.co.uk/blogs/dotraphael/archive/2012/04/23/sccm-2012-cas-hierarchy.aspx What about server hardware.. Yes you can go with Virtual Server configuration: Dedicated server - Primary site - SQL 2008 Std, SCCM 2012 Virtualized server - Central Administration Site - SCCM 2012 Refer this http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682077.aspx
anyweb Posted May 18, 2012 Report post Posted May 18, 2012 in the environment you describe, you'd be fine with a standalone primary. Is the second domain going to be in the same forest or in another forest ?
