Troubleshooting Deployment Packages which stall at "Downloading (0% Complete)" in Software Center client

Note: This is regarding SCCM 2012

 

I have been trying to understand why my client will not download an update from the distribution point. See the attached image for an example.

 

Steps I took leading up to this:

Selected an update within Config Manager.

Created the Software Update Group and Deployment Package

Deployed the deployment package for "As Soon As Possible" installation with an immediate deadline.

 

Distribution Point Status is good. 1 of 1 points have the package.

I double check the presence of the package through the network path, on the distribution point and there are files in the proper folder(s).

 

Switch to client machine,

Navigate to the share which contains the updates to ensure I can see them.

Open Configuration Manager Properties from control panel.

Manually run "Software Updates Deployment Evaluation Cycle"

Receive the Software Center notification, open Software Center, click INSTALL.

 

Result:

 

 

The Software Center client will stall in this state. I have been unable to find any errors or warnigns while the client is stalled in this state.

 

The only error I see on the client appears after I force the download to cancel

Event ID - 11713

Description - SMS internal error occurred for the update d68e0cb2-9501-405e-af9c-156f352d6735.

 

The same true on the SCCM server which receives a copy of this error.

 

 

My current hypothesis is there is an issue with permissions somewhere on the distribution point but this has me running in circles. Permissions appear to be fine.

 

Have any of you seen this or a similar behavior in the past? Were you able to fix it?

What would you check next if you were in my situation?

C:\windows\ccm\logs\ContentTransferManager.log should shine a light on what is going on (or not) with any file transfers.

 

Some digging into this lights that there may be a boundary problem, it may be a good place to double check. In my case when I hit this problem it was due to a 15GB package that is a monster (default cache is 5GB total!)

I was facing the same problem , but by changing the locations. My problem is reslove. You can also confirm the the paths

I too just had this same issue and wanted to share my results as it seemed to be common. Basically my symptom was that my remote DP's were receiving content fine, however none of the clients assigned to use those DP's via boundaries were allowing content to download, specifically software updates. After searching for days and days and trying all of the tricks i could find such as enabling anonymous authentication on the DP’s, recreating the deployments, etc., i traced the issue down to IIS. All of my clients pointing to these remote DP’s were getting the following errors, “Successfully sent location services HTTP failure message” “Error sending DAV requests. HTTP code 500, status internal server error” “Non-recoverable error retrieving manifest 0x87d0027e”Long story short BITS and ASP.net were not installed on my remote DP's. I had followed the pre-req check and chose the option to automatically install/configure IIS when setting up the DP’s, and looked at logs and didn’t have any issues, also i cannot find any Microsoft documentation that explicitly lists these as requirements for distribution points. However, as soon as i installed these components and rebooted this resolved my issue on all 3 of my remote DP's. Hope this helps some people out there who struggled with this issue as much as I did. I'm aware that these components are required for your CAS and/or Primary Site Server which is explains why clients pointed to it as a DP were working fine, but apparently the same pre-reqs required to install Primary Site Server are also required for DP's.

Also make sure that for any applications, under Deployment Type, Content, that in situations of a slow or unreliable link that you choose "Download this content and run locally".

That was a problem for us recently, our remote site users couldn't pull down SCCM content.

 

Turns out we had defined all remote sites as being part of a "Remote" Site in Active Directory Sites and Services and that we had explicitically defined the Remote site as being "Slow" in SCCM.
