guyver78 Posted August 15, 2012 Report post Posted August 15, 2012 Hi Guys, I was wondering if anyone has run into this problem before when deploying Slate PC's with Docks. Basically I need to deploy Windows 7 to 800 Slates but my problem is that they come with Docks where the network adapter is stored (and hence the Mac Address). As you can imagine docks will be swapped and switched around all the time. Config Manager depends on the mac address from the Dock to give the device a computer name etc etc. So my question is, is there a way of creating a device collection without relying on the Mac address??? have anybody faced this problem before? any ideas will really be appreciated. justgav Posted August 15, 2012 Report post Posted August 15, 2012 Hi, I guess if you had wireless setup you could use the mac of the wireless adaptor as the main mac. - Then don't allow the wired mac boundary in sccm. I guess that means that sccm will only use the wireless adaptor but you don't seem to have a perfect world. You may then have to have all your docking stations on a seperate vlan/subnet to other PC's so if is easier to break up the boundaries. guyver78 Posted August 16, 2012 Report post Posted August 16, 2012 it's ok, i've woked it out. you can use the Mac address obviously but you can also use the SMBIOS GUID unique ID of any PC to import it into SCCM and create your device collections. Anyway problem solved thanks

guyver78 Posted August 19, 2012 Report post Posted August 19, 2012 There is no quick or easy way. Log into the current OS into each one individually, bring up command prompt and get the SMBIOS GUID for all 800 slates. I know it sounds like a painful process and it will be i'm sure but it shouldnt take longer then a day and worth it in the long run
