gr4z Posted September 14, 2012 Report post Posted September 14, 2012 I know WSUS introduces a random interval of up to 2 hours when polling the WSUS server within SCCM, but what about advertising apps and the SCCM client? I thought SCCM always introduces some sort of random interval on top of the fixed schedule to prevent network storms. Can anyone confirm? Jorgen Nilsson Posted September 14, 2012 Report post Posted September 14, 2012 Hi, The recommended setting is that the client use a simple schedule which means that the client will scan once a day for instance, then you will have a normal offset of when client scan for updates. gr4z Posted September 14, 2012 Report post Posted September 14, 2012 OK but if you set once per day does that introduce a random interval - I assume it does? I am sure I read somewhere that SCCM always introduces a random lapse in time to prevent say 10000 workstations all polling at the same time. Rocket Man Posted September 14, 2012 Report post Posted September 14, 2012 Well if you think of it this way all your clients installed on your machines at different times more than likely...so already with a default install of the client(60 mins polling schedule), all the clients will not pole at same time.......machines may start up in the morning /afternoon and may pole at the same time, but this poling traffic is only light, it is when there is actual software to be installed that will tax the network....but this is what BITS is used for to overcome heavy network usage!
