shawnyuen Posted November 12, 2012 Report post Posted November 12, 2012 Hi all, Right now we are using OSD via bootable media method. The drawback of this method is that if the media is unable to recongise the machine NIC card, I will have issues to deploy. As such I am exploring should we be using PXE or MDT to deploy OSD to overcome such issues. Any suggestions from our dear members here? Regards, Shawn Yuen
Matt Hinson Posted November 13, 2012 Report post Posted November 13, 2012 Hi Shawn, Just to clarify, are you currently leveraging SCCM to deploy images? As long as you have the correct NIC drivers injected into the boot image you are using for the task sequence, it'll pick up the NIC. If you have not done that, that is your first step. Your second step will then be to update the boot image on your DPs, then you will want to create new media that will include the new updates you made to your boot image. As far as needing PXE or MDT, you don't need either. PXE is nice, but too much overhead in my opinion and you don't need MDT if you are using SCCM (sorry for all the MDT lovers out there, I know that is blasphemy!). Also, neither of these are going to help you with your issue. Any non-recognition of the NIC is due to drivers not being in the boot image. Best, Matt
Kingen Posted November 13, 2012 Report post Posted November 13, 2012 Some times you have to add NIC drivers in to your boot image
shawnyuen Posted November 14, 2012 Report post Posted November 14, 2012 Thanks guys! Right now we are using OSD to deploy images when new workstations comes into our office. Is there any nice guides out there that teaches how to inject drivers into the boot image? I'm pretty new here. Thanks for your wonderful advice.
